Wearable art

"Northern hemispheres nomad cultures inspire me - wolfskin, silks, elkteeth etc. Costumes beautiful as wall decorations or for personal rituals."

The north of Sweden is part of a belt of northern nomadic cultures, that spread over the whole of the northern hemisphere. Here in Ångermanland nature is still all embracing and it is easy to relate to our insignifigant size in relation to the universe..

These costumes are based loosely on the Siberian, Mongolian and Lappish clothing culture. I use mostly recycled materials, very little man made fibres and plastics. Some materials are dyed with vegetable dyes. The decoration comes from the northern regions ptarmigan claws, elk teeth, caiper, caillie feathers etc. The costumes are cross cultural. Just as our ancestors treasured small relies of strange cultures, so do these clothes reflect the diersity of the northern nomadic heritage.

The longer I live here, the more I appreciate the power and magic that our ancestors posessed. They lived with nature, not against it. I see these costumes as a way of payfng homage to those who have inhabited this planet and respected it. Those who still I hope can teach us to live carefully on this earth.
0ur childrens inheritance.
