HistoryGota Canal, sea route from Gothenburg to Sjotorp at the lake Vanern. Through lake Vattern to Soderkoping (West through to the east). Built 1810-32 under guidance of Baltzar von Platen. 58 300 soldiers dug the canal by hand. Length: 190,5 km, from which about 87 km was dug and the rest is lakes. Depth: 3 m. Highest height above the sea: 91,5 m. Lock gates: 58.
