(Megaforce 1983/Elektra 1988/Elektra 1991)

Originally released on Megaforce records in 1983. The Elektra release of the debut album in 1988 included two bonus tracks from the original Garage Days Revisited sessions. This version was deleted in 1991 and was re-released by Elektra without the two bonus tracks.

The band's third effort forever changed the face of "thrash metal" with its inexorable, intense, melodic sound. Without the benefit of singles or videos, Master of Puppets sells over a million copies in the U.S. alone.

Metallica's first effort with new bassist, Jason Newsted, consisted of the cover songs Lars and James had played back in their--you guessed it--garage days. Also know as The $9.98 CD or The $5.98 Cassette. Now out of print, this EP has become a highly sought after collector's piece.

Not only was this Metallica's first full-length album with Jason aboard, its release marked the first singles and videos release by the band. ...And Justice For All is heralded as a major breakthrough album for band, and resulted in a Grammy nomination.

This is the one that blew the doors wide open! Charting at #1 the first week of its release, "The Black Album" (as it came to be known) contained a number of singles and videos. No, Metallica didn't go mainstream...the mainstream finally came to Metallica.

All the best artists habitually reinvent themselves. Fifteen years into their existence, Load, Metallica's sixth studio album, represents a creative rebirth. Featuring less than half the songs Metallica has written and recorded in the last 12 months, Load  sees Metallica nod to their past while continuing to seek their own destiny, rather than accept one dug for them by the lazy preconceptions of others.
