The politics around Destination Recordings…
(consuming, producing, selling, ad executives, marketing)

As you're doing this label you must get people to consume your releases and there we find the enormous opposition about doing a label and still being very left-winged, radical and anti-capitalistic. We'll try to settle things out, trying to explain our means and our deeds that we want to do with the label. This is not just about music.

Getting hooked up by us?
From now on we will only release music with groups being revolutionaries, interested in the analysis around radicalism and we will only release music that we view as potential material to be exhibits of revolution.

As capitalism is based on excessive consumption and suburb pieces to make the crises you'll also see the great opposition by doing a record-label releasing music for people just to consume? This is a great contradiction isn't it?
Definitely it is a contradiction, but also we recognize the fact that we can affect a lot of people by running this record-label. The fact that the capitalist system is based on the prediction that the world will expand in size by making perpetual suburbs for us to buy, to get a share of the power, the access and the right to speak, vote and listen we believe that we shall take part in some activities to survive and fight to attain our visions. As the concept of "revolution" actually must be sold, due to the fact that we live in a consumerist culture we take our chance to affect and keep on propagating for revolution and passion in our everyday life. As we don't direct work upon people, bossing around people working 9-5 we don't recognize any kind of substance of the regular "business structure" we see in the rest of society. We are an anti-hierarchical organization. You have to sell your stuff In order to stay alive and to keep on releasing potent and dangerous music.

We want you to be able to control the medium you choose, and we want to ensure that the medium isn't controlling you. As a lot of products and traditions are based on in the rest of the society.

This will always contain a bit of contradiction, but we will all fight to attain our desires and we chose this medium to spread a lot of revolutionary material.

What about doing ads? Advertising to make people consume your records unknowingly to what it is they're buying?

Basically what we are trying to do with the ads is to explain the meaning with the band, the music or simply their politics and means to change. We are not planning to make any kind of slogan-inspired "this is what you must have to feel happy and satisfied" - HC record. We want to make a difference with our flyers, as we know they'll appear in some zines once in a while. We are not trying to seduce people to buy our records as products, we are trying to affect people by text masses and rhetorical visions where we visualize our means and possible deeds made out by this record-label. To do an ad is to make people see what you're about and absolutely not to use fancy slogans as "this will make your blood go faster shit" - that we made before…

You will not advertise a band with slogans and meanings that they do not truly stand behind, right?
That's right. We will not promote a band as "feminists" or "revolutionaries" if they do not consider themselves as ones. We will not promote any kind of fake projection and vision of what it really isn't, truly. That would be to trick people into consume the new and fresh record, without even thinking about the consequences it might will have to his/her life. We want people to have the ability of controlling the medium they chose. We don't want the medium to control them.

Are you one of those simplistic people declaring that punkrock music will change the world?
We do believe that music can raise interest, affect people very seriously and make people think about different topics that we want to elevate by doing this label. We don't think that fast and rocky music necessarily will cause overthrowing of the government or any other kind of action in itself, but sure we can illuminate various topics that we might think are interesting and sometimes also necessary to affect people's lives, direct and precise. Of course we have long-term goals, but for now we can only aim for the short-term goals, and that's about releasing politically challenging music to the status quo. We can proclaim that some music does have more political stance than others have, and by that we want to say that we definitely are interested in releasing music also not just because of political lyrics but because of the members in the band being politically active, either if that does mean through lyrics or action. Punkrock will not change the world through the music itself, but we believe that the music can act catalyst for discussion, debate and action, which is pretty much essential for any kind of change on this planet, right? We believe that the punkrock/HC community is filled with a lot of potential and revolutionary ideas.

Do you do anything else with the label, but releasing music?
We do see the that the punkrock/HC community often restrict itself to buying punkrock music, consuming fancy slogans through merchandize and plates and other kind of idolizationized material. We believe that we could do a lot more than doing this label, writing articles and having lectures. That's why we have started distributing pamphlets with concrete ideas concerning Socialism, Marxism, everyday life and revolution. We do think that a lot of people in this community use their political potentials in writing incomprehensible so-called intellectual articles. We use a lot of complicated words, explanations to assert our own potential instead of elucidating our real means and proposition for deeds. We believe that we need to arrange more argument collections. Pamphlets with questions and answers we usually face in everyday life as potential revolutionaries, vegans or drugfree. We need to make more understandable text masses with more specific explanations and exactly what do we want with this world. Not just, what do we not want with this world. We need concrete argumentation back-ups so that we can rhetorically develop more discussions. What we can do is using historical argumentation, that we directly can use to overcome the subject. What we can do is to train ourselves to become potential speakers, studying rhetoric.

We need to talk more than writing. Discussing our ideas and visions with one another more than we do today. Destination recordings will from now on always proclaim not be a label just about music and potential beats and rhythms. We will start distributing books, pamphlets for free, argumentation pamphlets, analysis of political happenings, philosophy and action. We'll not just distribute pamphlets that people within the Destination collective writes, we'll also distribute other collective's material and also writings and analysis that we do agree with or at least believe are necessary to bring forward in this community. So make your contribution and send it in to us and we might publish it and distribute it for you. We will not sign to any kind of ideology or "faith" bringing term, we distribute any kind material we consider having a big revolutionary potential, Syndicalism, Marxism, Socialism, Communism, Anarchism, Feminism, Anti-fascism and Animal Right propagating. We believe that a lot of those ideas together have a big and potential meaning for the whole revolutionary movement. We'll not sign on officially to any kind of ideology and we'll not restrict ourselves by distributing only for example anarchistic literature.

How do you produce your releases and how do you sell it?
We let the band enter the studio and then we discuss within the collective how we're gonna perceptibly promote this release without leaving the truth. We read stuff that the band has produced and then we write something suggesting what the band is about, latter on we send it to the band and then they reflect. If they think something is untrue, we'll change it and they'll make their notes and then we can see the precise picture of their political stance and vision. We sell our releases through DIY distributing worldwide. This is a hard way of working a lot of those distros aren't really true and they'll rip us off. We will not in any way romanticize this movement and we do declare that there are untrue and hypocritically people within this community as well. This is why we also deal with stores selling punkrock/HC music, that we know can bring economical advantage to us. We must work this way, because we are aware of the fact that we live in a capitalist consumerist culture that we actually must obey in some ways to survive in this world. The pamphlets we distribute cost nothing, due to the fact that we buy the culture when we distribute our music. We do always question these contradictions and we'll always work for the solution, but as it is for now we admit our paradoxes, through claiming something and then do something else. Thus we are against the whole consumerist culture, but still we must work by it, unfortunately.
Thank you.
