the heroes and the losers



 Caps played their very first game ver in ASHL. It may have just been a pre season game but the hype and the expectations were unbelievable! Flyers stood as the opponents and it was with sheer pleasure that the Caps managed to beat the mighty Philly team with 3 goals to 1. Hasek in goals was magnifique and Juneau stole the show away from trusted veteran Oates.

 

Caps trade with Sabres: Hasek, Barnaby, Zhitnik, Grosek + Sabres 4th pick came into the possesion of Caps when they gave away Kolzig, Bondra, Gonchar & Konowalchuck. Well, it's always hard to part with a player like Bondra. This time the feelings were not so rough since we received the best keeper in the business. Zhitnik will replace Gonchar and he is a little better so that's great and Grosek is more of a player that suits Caps then Konowalchuck who probably would have been left out of the team anyway. Barnaby is a great player and with his aggresivness and die hard heart he will be a great asset.

Caps trade with Bruins: Bourque, Khristich & Tallas join the Caps while Johansson, Barnaby, Bulis and Zednik leave. Bourque and Hasek in the same team? Incredible! Bourque is the best d-man in the game so he will be a great help. Johansson wasn't that hard to give away, not if you're getting Bourque. Khristich also joins the team and that is great. With Bondra out of town a sniper was welcome. Of course not as good as Bondra, Khristich will still score a lot of goals. Tallas joined up only becase we wanted a 3rd keeper... Barnaby was hard to give away. We didn't wish to but we had no choice. Bulis is a great talent so it was sad to see him pack his bags too. Zednik's speed will be missed.

Caps trade with Rangers: Sundström for Simon & Berube. This was a move solely to gain a more talented player then Simon. Sundström will probably become a great fan favorite while Simon will continue to beat people up somewhere... Berube was outside of the team but his age made him very undesireable. He was the bait that Caps lured the Rangers with to gain Sundström.

Caps trade with Oilers: Kovalenko joins the Caps instead of Nikolishin and Miller. Kovalenko is a very underrtaed player but he will surely increase withinh just a year. He replaces Nikolishin who is probably not going to have a breakthrough any time soon. Miller is old and overpaid and Caps wished to dump him asap.
