Canucks trading frenzy

Canucks - Islanders

Islanders once again pop up in the trading circus and this time they pulled of this deal with they trading aggresive Canucks:

To Canucks: Guolla, Zyuzin and McCarthy (Sandy)

To Islanders: Galley and Errey

Once again the Isles pursue old players and if one understood their last trade for age this is more mysterious as they give up real prospects, something they have before almost never done. They do gain a solid replacer for Therien in Galley and they get an old Errey who will hardly play many games. Canucks on the other hand get Zyuzin that a couple of other teams have shown interest in in the past. McCarthy is a goon that Isles have used in the past but he has probably failed to deliver what the managemnet of Isles want. Guolla is a semi young winger. It looks as though the Canucks wanted Zyuzin and the ywanted him badly. McCarthy and Goulla won't find a place on the Canucks starting line up and Zyuzin will have to battle to do that himself. Canucks must expect much of him as they gave up Galley for him and were willing to throw in Errey as a bonus. Canucks get younger and Islanders get better. Much better.

Canucks - Capitals

Canucks once again went for youth and paid the price:

To Canucks: Johansson and Robitaille

To Capitals: Hull and Arvedsson

Canucks really wanted to get their hands on Johansson who is playing weel for Ottawa in Sens (NHL). For this winger they gave up mega star Brett Hull! It seems like a lot but the rest of the trade kind of evens things out. If we look at johansson and Arvedsson one sees two preety much even players, but Johansson have proved himself better in the NHL. Comparing Hull to Robitaille is also pretty even but that is where it begins to get weird. Robitalle somehow got immensly high ratings and is bound to drop next year while Hull is racking up points in Stars (NHL). Next year Hull will be much better then Robitaille while Johansson will surpass Arvedsson. One wonders though how much johansson can achieve to boost himself up in the ratings due to one season? Many players had great years last year but come rating time it was said that one season is not enough to get good ratings. Looking a couple of years into the future maybe Johansson will have become a good enough player to even out this trade, but one has to remember that Arvesson is playing well in NHL too. The difference in this trade is in between Hull and Robitaille. Hull has many more years as a dominating player in the NHL, while Robitalle has seen his glory days and is on his way down, fast.

Canucks - Panthers

In a minor trade Canucks and Panthers trade like this:

To Canucks: Washburn

To Panthers: Harlock + 4th pick

Canucks once again went for prospects. This time they got themselves Steve Wasburn. A player who is on his way up. They gave up Harlock who they picked in this years Rookiedraft. Harlock is a 26 year old defender who is good defensivly. Panthers needed more defenders and even though they paid a big price they also got a 4th pick in the next draft, which could turn this trade in their favor, but right now it looks like a steal form the Canucks...
