Health related presentations
  1. Mobile phones and public health.
In this presentation health characteristics in Sweden, Denmark and Norway are related to changes in time trends and variation over the country. Why is the country-side the worst place to stay at today?

  2. Malignant melanoma of the skin - not a sunshine story!
Melanoma is a very special disease in the sense that it in earlier days was very rare and today is the most rapidly growing cancer. And it all started around 1955. Why should we not try to understand what caused the change?

  3. The mad Englishman disease
In 1996 the first few victims of the human variant of the mad cow disease was found. I had access to data describing cause and effect among the cattle and since the Englishmen in turn were eating the cattle, I could easily predict what was to expect in the future. A paper was submitted to The Lancet and of-cource rejected. Real scientists could not come closer than something between a handfull and several millions of dead. My calculation ended up in precicely 160 killed in total. The graph below shows my estimate in September 1996 and what actually happened since then (today 152 have died...).
Reliability and safety
  1. Estimate future repair costs
If you have access to sales volumes per month or year of a product and also have got the total number of customer returns per month or year you may use that information to estimate future returns and repair costs. The principles are described and a suitable software can be adapted for your needs.

  2. Traffic safety development in Sweden and other Nordic countries.
In this presentation you will learn about an analysis done in 1986 on the number of annually killed people in the Svedish traffic. It turns out that the predicted number of killed people since then followed the actual numbers within 10%! The Swedish Road Authority has recently got very interested in this analysis.

Environmental management of the World
  1. Will the global warming soon turn into a global heating?
The authorities don't like to mention it, but what is the upper limit for the global warming that most of us admit has started already? Well, in 1980, Carl Sagan wrote that the hell of Venus is just around the corner if human activities can increase the temperature by as little as 1-2 degrees.

The tundras will heat up and release hidden green house gases, the oceans will start releasing CO2, the vital regulating mechanisms that needs polar ice will collapse when the ice melts away and the temperature goes into a thermal run-away. The temperature might not stabilise until it reaches 490 degrees Celsius. Calculations will be presented that describe the likely temperature increase the next 100 years.
