All About Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino was born 1963 in Knoxville, Tennessee. When he was 2 he and his 18 year old mother moved to Los Angeles. His mother took him to the cinema from an early age, he saw 'Carnal Knowledge' at the age of 8 and 'Deliverance' at the age of 9. From this early introduction Tarantino fell in love with the cinema.
At the age of 22, he started to job in Video Archives, a video store in Manhattan Beach, California where he spent all day watching, discussing and recommending videos. Quentin now wrote his first script "True Romance", which he later sold for $50,000. By 1988, he wrote his second manuscript, "Natural Born Killers", which Oliver Stone bought in 1993.

In 1992, Tarantino burst into the movie scene with his dark and violent crime story "Reservoir Dogs" which he had both written and directed him self. If you wonder where he got the name "Reservoir Dogs" from, I can tell you that it was when he was working at "Video Archives" he couldn't pronounce the title of the film `Au Revoir Les Enfants`, he then combined this with "Straw Dogs", a Sam Peckinpah film from 1971. So the title of "Reservoir Dogs", doesn't have so much to do with the film! The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, Tarantino was already being referred to as the next Martin Scorsese.

The expectations for his new movie had by now been blown sky high, but Tarantino fulfilled the expectations and more. His new film `Pulp Fiction` was praised as one of the best movies for many years. Tarantino also got an Oscar nomination as director, and won the Oscar for best screenplay together with his friend Roger Avary.

In 1996 he produced and starred in the violent exploitation, kill the vampires movie; From Dusk Till Dawn. It was directed by Robert Rodriguez from a script by Quentin.

Tarantino's new film "Jackie Brown" is by some a dissapointment compared to his earlier films.
This is maybe because it isnīt so violent as the earlier films. "Jackie Brown" is based upon Elmor Leonard's (Get Shorty) novel Rum Punch.
