Emanuel was commonly called "Manvell ve forsen" (Manvell at the rapids). He was an elder brother to my great grandfather and was born in 1848. In the district, he was known as an eccentric man, and has been written about in a story about "the 'fors'-man" in the book "Värmland blommar och ler" by Evald Lier, another little book about clay pipe production, and in the local paper, Arvika Nyheter.
He took up clay pipe production, just like his father "Stolpe-Jo". Emanuel was very successful with it, made good money and bought houses in Oslo. At the turn of the century, as clay pipes lost in popularity, the business luck faded.
Emanuel died in 1930, at the age of 82.
In an article in Arvika Nyheter, it's told that he was really destituted when he died. This is not quite true even if people thought so by his way of living. He made up his will completely in favour to his nephew Adolf Forsman, my grandfather, who came into a considerable amount of money.
