Born 1953
I'm
not only a great fan of Shigeru (Shiggy) Miyamoto because he makes good
videogames or because he's the man behind Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Donkey Kong and
more, it's because he's so brilliant and has so many ideas. He's to video gaming
what John Lennon is to music and Luc Besson to movies.
When
Shigeru was a little kid he spent most of the time exploring the surroundings
around is house in his hometown Sonebe outside Kyoto. He was a very good
painter but he didn't what he wanted to be because he knew that he wouldn't
survive an ordinary boring and monotone job for a too long time. Then he asked
his father to contact one of his old friends Hiroshi Yamauchi who ran and still
runs Nintendo.
In 1977 Shigeru was called to Yamauchi's office. The first meeting didn't give
much but when he showed him his ideas he became hired as Nintendo first staff
artist although they didn't need one. 1980 he started working as a game
designer, creating artwork for their upcoming arcade games etc.
His
first project was Donkey Kong that also was Mario's first game. It was produced
1980 with another celebrity in video gaming Gunpei Yokoi. Mario was first
called Jumpman but when the game was released in the states his name became Mario.
The game was 2D and no scrolling.
Mario (Jumpman) should rescue the princess should was kept by Browser who throw
barrels to stop him.
This
became a smash hit and Shigeru Miyamoto was assigned to design a Game
&Watch type of the game.
Now
he is working on different projects to Nintendo's next console Dolphin. He's
also working on projects to their existing console Nintendo 64.
