F.A.Q.

What is Trakoria?

Trakoria is a so called scenario for the strategy game Civ2 Fantastic Worlds. See the System Requirements section for details on the software and the About Trakoria section for more information on the scenario itself.

What is Fantastic Worlds?

Fantastic Worlds is a scenario CD for Sid Meier’s Civilization II. Click here to read more about it! Personally I would recommend it to anybody who has the original Civ2. There are a number of spectacular scenarios on the CD but also new scenario making tools and editors, including an enhanced macro language for so called events!

The graphics are very different from the graphics in the original Civ2! How have you managed that?

When it comes to Unit graphics I have had help from a very skilled artist (see the Credits section). Much of the other graphics are actually taken from scenarios in the Fantastic Worlds setting. Some graphics have however been found on the Internet and been ripped from other peoples scenarios and Mod-packs. Some graphics I have actually made myself!

Why is the Sound.zip file so large (3 Mb)?

All sound effects in the scenario, and in Civ2, are in wav-format. This makes them very large in size. Trakoria incorporates a large amount of such wav-files (almost 5 Mb), resulting in the huge size of the Sound.zip file.

Is it necessary to download Sound.zip in order to have sound effects in the game?

Yes and no… The default sound effects of Civ2 are NOT suited for the Trakoria scenario! The scenario will however work just fine without sound effects and these can be disabled in the Game menu. Also note that v2.0 has new sound effects, and that the old files of v1.05 and earlier are NOT supported!

Is it necessary to have the Fantastic Worlds CD in the CD-ROM Drive when playing?

Yes and no… The Trakoria scenario incorporates several of the sound tracks on the Fantastic Worlds CD. Music is however optional.

Why shouldn’t I play the scenario as the Elven, the Rebel or the Ransardi?

The Elven are few in numbers and doesn't have any possibilities to advance by any means. The Elven civilization is also used for game mechanics, which would be wrecked if a human player took control! The Rebel can’t build cities or acquire Civilization Advances. The Ransardi enter the game late in the scenario and are therefore unplayable. These "off limits" Civilizations also control monsters and other Special Units and furthermore can’t negotiate with other Civilizations.

Why shouldn’t I play on easier levels than Deity?

The scenario is designed for the Deity level but the different game parameters aren’t necessarily those of the default Deity level in Civ2! The reason for not playing on lesser levels is that some events, for an example, are triggered by certain Advances. If you change the difficulty level these events will not be triggered as they were meant to, because the difficulty level also changes the pace at which Advances are acquired. There are also several other reasons for not playing on lesser levels, like the fact that the scenario has never been tested on other levels than the Deity level!

Why isn’t there any objectives in the scenario?

There’s apparently some sort of bug in the game… My idea was to only have Wonders as objectives, but the game didn’t like that at all! So I removed the objectives. Even if there aren't any objectives you can always win by conquering the entire scenario map. This can however only be done at the last turn. See the Latest changes to Trakoria section for more details.

I can’t access the Scenario Manual or the Scenario Strategy sections of the Trakoria Online Manual!

The Scenario Manual is being rewritten according to the changes in Trakoria v2.0. The Scenario Strategy section has not yet been written! These sections will come up in a near future, so keep an eye out!

Which is the latest version of Trakoria? How can I tell which version of Trakoria I already have?

The latest version, and the latest changes, can be viewed in the Latest Changes to Trakoria section. The current version number can be viewed in the !ReadMe.txt file, located in your Trakoria directory. If you don't have this file you probably have version 1.05 or older.
