Ereb Altor and Trakoria

Trakoria is a part of the continent of Ereb, on the world of Altor. If one considers Ereb being Europe, Trakoria would be located in the position of the British Isles.

Trakoria is the popular designation for the islands of the North Sea. The name Trakoria itself comes from the Trakorian Empire, which was founded by rebellious Clavian colonists in the year 385 aO (aO — after the prophet Odo). Though this scenario takes place between the years 280 bO and 220 aO — and is concentrated around the above mentioned, much earlier Clavian Empire — the name Trakoria is never the less used as a designation for all the islands in the North Sea.

The Geography of Trakoria

The four main islands are Palamux in the west, Trinsmyra in the north, Paratorna in the east and Saphyna in the south. This scenario takes mainly place on the island of Palamux — the birthplace of the Clavian Empire. That's why this geography lesson mainly is concentrated on this island.

Palamux

The north and north-western part of Palamux is called Kargom, a rugged mountainous land. The climate is rough and the habitants, the Kargomites, are barbaric savages. Kargom is also the home of countless tribes of orcs. The most civilized part of Kargom is Nastrol, east of the main massif. The most savage parts of the north is actually the isles north-west of Kargom. These are in order, from west to east, Lumaria, Manovga and Chracz. Lumaria is told to be the home of cannibalic tribes. Chracz, and even Kargom itself, is somewhat colonized by Krau-Ki — the evil empire of the far north.

Central Palamux, south of Kargom, consists of the Fokale Plains, a steppe with a surprisingly warm climate. This is due to the Kargom Wall, which is a vertical, glassy, one mile high natural wall, that reflect the sunlight onto the steppe. The Kargom Wall effectively separate the low land from northern barbary. Fokale is populated by the Hueli, a primitive nomadic people. They know little of agriculture and nothing of irrigation, so they don't see the advantages of the rather fertile steppe. The great lake in southern Fokale is called Laak Lakrima.

South of Nastrol, and east of Fokale, is Moskoria — a steppe where the two rivers Qafacha and Gushar flows. It has recently been colonized by refugees from Lasemos. The small island directly east of Moskoria is called Stegos.

There is only wilderness immediately south and south-west of Moskoria: in the south the Copper Mountains, and in the south-west the elven forest of Gwondel Leigu. North of the elf realm are the Crying Mountains, located directly south of Laak Lakrima. These mountains house the Tolguldes, huge human like beings, 8½ feet in height. The Copper Mountains on the other hand infest isolated tribes of orcs.

The south-western part of Palamux consist of the two most civilized regions of Trakoria — Laabne and Lasemos. Both provinces are former colonies of the late Jorpagnan Empire. While Lasemos is a rural region, in large parts forested however, is Laabne in the west in large parts dead, since the life force of the very land has been drained to the city of Voag Aspede. The island of Bhannavil is located east of Lasemos and is often considered to also be a part of the former colony. The archipelago to the west of Lasemos is called Koelvy. The waters to the west of Laabne are impassable, since the islands of the Ferrophages have extensive magnetic activity, which make passage very risky.

Finally we have Klagga, a wild savage land, in north of Lasemos and Laabne, but south of Kargom. It is inhabited by orcs, ogres and other barbaric beings. Near the coast is the region of Birch Realm, consiting of the great canyon of Hoskas. The mountain of Bektar is located in north of Klagga and is a bastion of great evil.

The other islands

Trinsmyra in the north is a barren island. It consists of Milacke in the west, Rung in the north and east, and Kark in the south-east. Rung consist of mountains, while Kark is the most fertile part of the isle. The forests north of Kark are called Vulfer Veden and is the home of the wolfmen. Otherwise the whole island is more or less populated by ice barbarians. The mountains of Trinsmyra are populated by orchoid beings, and the evil Krau-Ki has also built a colony in northern Milacke.

Paratorna in the east is not civilized, but well populated by Skeckers, natives with spotted skins. There are also some elfs and a lot of orcs. The central mountains are called the Hesipha Massif, the great lake Malossi and the deep forests in the south-east the Kryffer Woods. The swamp in north of Malossi — the Marches of Shadows — are inhabited by strange creatures with psychic abilities which could drive a man crazy. It is much feared and avoided.

Finally, Saphyna in the south is the least populated part of Trakoria. There are only some orcs and a few elfs. The central mountain range is called Matagde, the northern plains Koljulme and the southern the Frimbole Plains. The eastern part, Tocme, is forested and very difficult to travel in. Its far east end consists of marshes. These marshes, Miasma, are hazardous because of the numerous diseases that thrive there. But the whole western peninsula of Krindenland is still more dangerous. The landscape itself is unstable and changes with time, totally unpredictably!

The historical background

After the Third Conflux (599-598 bO), which in effect wiped away the entire mighty Jorpagnan Empire, not much remained of civilization on the continent of Ereb. The Jorpagnan colonists on the islands of the North Sea lost all communications with the main continent and the fallen empire. Still, they were the lone bearers of the light of civilization in Trakoria. The colonies — Laabne, Lasemos and Bhannavil — soon fell into chaos and disorder, as many potent men felt they were called upon to siege power.

The people of Lasemos had fought alongside with the elfs of Gwondel Leigu, against the orcs of Klagga — a common threat to them both. The elven told their human friends about fertile fields beyond their forest and let colonists pass through. The Lasemosian colonists first came to Moskoria — the new land — in 290 bO. As they settled in, they began to call themselves Clavians.

In the year 380 bO, a party of wizards took over power in Laabne and founded a magical academy. The Gray Eminencies, as they are called, have isolated themselves in Voag Aspede, their magical city, so they can study in peace. Meanwhile the fighting continues in Lasemos. The wizards of Voag Aspede are very skilled, but they only care about their magical teachings, and have forgotten about everything else, even life itself from which they have isolated themselves. As their magical city blooms in splendour and unearthly colors, the rest of Laabne slowly fades away as all the power of the land is literally sucked up by the Eminencies. All that remains are ashes. Endless walleyes of ash...

The Third Conflux was also the end of the evil empire of Yndar, in the far, far south. They had offended the gods with their hereticy and the punishment was that their capitol Krau-Ki, and the surrounding countryside, was relocated to the cold far, far north. Krau-Ki still remains, but consists now of an icy island called Marjura in the cold north. They didn't however learn their lesson and continue to practice black magic, summon demons and defy the authority of the gods. The evil rulers of Marjura has built several vital colonies on the Trakorian islands. The patience of the gods is however once again about to be exhausted...

Religion in Trakoria

The Trakorian Pantheon

The gods that make up the pantheon which is worshipped in Trakoria, were originally members of the Jorpagnan pantheon. The colonies in the North Sea still continue to worship their old gods, though the empire of Jorpagna is no more...

Enki

Enki is the head of the Trakorian pantheon. He is the lord of the fresh water that bring life to the earth. Enki is also the god and protector of wisdom, craftsmanship and tradition.

Anxalis

Anxalis is probably however the most significant member of the pantheon. She is the goddess of the sea, and as capricious as the oceans. As Trakoria consists of islands, she is very important for everyday life.

Trocuspa

Trocuspa is the god of war and battle in Trakorian belief. He will command the forces in the final battle against the hordes of Chaos, at the very end of time.

Banzikan, the way of the warrior, is Trocuspas art of war. It is not so much physical fitness and advanced fencing, as it is a state of mind. Banzikan is the right perspective on one self, the enemy and the battle, on life and on death. Warriors of Banzikan are popularly known to follow their commander into battle as loyally as trained dragons…

Inashtar

The ice barbarians of the north worship Inashtar — the goddess of fire, war and unrestrained lusts — things that have close affiliation for the barbarians of the north. The goddess is also the protector of the island of Trinsmyra.

Inashtar worship can take many forms, but among the most eminent are the followers of the demon Ghumgakk. The cult is called Rhabdo Rana and consists of dedicated assassins that slay in the name of their demonic master.

Other Gods

Other gods and members of the pantheon are, among others, Marduk — the lord of storms and tempest, and Luvena — the goddess of Luna and the goddess of decease. There are also a large number of other, lesser members in this pantheon.
