Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch
The Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch is the oldest church after the church in Jerusalem. The official language of the church is Syriac/Aramaic and was for long the language which dominated the Middle East. It was also the spoken language of Jesus Christ. The properties of the church reached all over Syria (Aram), Palestine, Cilicia, Mesopotamia, and Persia. Because of its great influence over these areas, you can still see Syriac area names in many places.
Despite difficulties, persecutions and disagreements suffering the church, it still continues its faith and traditions all over the world. There are almost 4 millions believers in the Syrian Orthodox faith (40 000 members in Sweden only) spread all around the world.
