Notes

Everybody reads four short stories from Short Fictions. The first is "Love is a Fallacy" which we discuss in class, the second and third are discussed in small groups with me and the fourth short story is the one in connection with which you will do a piece of written work.

Everybody reads the introduction (pp 7-12) containing plenty of good things to think of when you read and write.

Everybody hands in a wordlist (explanations in English - of course) in connection with the fourth story. Choose 15-25 useful new words that you wish to include in your active vocabulary. Try to use as many of these new words in your written work.

The written work in connection with the fourth short story should be at least 500 words long, preferably in typewritten manuscript, double spacing. It could be an analysis (Pretenders of MVG should do this) or personal reflections on the stories. You could write a continuation or provide a suitable background. Why not choose one of the characters and show us his or her thoughts, write an essay beginning "I am..." (one of the characters) You could write an extract from a diary written by one of the characters. Use your imagination! Be creative! Your writing should display that you have studied the story seriously and understood its core and implications.

Regardless of what you choose you must use the checklist. Hand in a ticked-off copy together with the written work. Avoid mistakes you have made before! It is much more fruitful to make new mistakes!

Learn from earlier mistakes and plan your work well. Time is always in limited supply.

If you cannot possibly be present at your discussions you have to contact me! (758 07 41 or 32 92 57)

ENJOY THE STORIES. BOOKS FEED YOUR BRAIN AND SOUL, YOU KNOW.
