In 1956 Eddie moved into the Mariposa Apartment whit his girlfriend 1Kathy.Desperate and broke, Ed, excited about the new wave of science fiction pictures that were making a lot of money at the drive-in theatres, decided that zombies, gothic horror and the living dead could be successfully mated with atomic age ides, flying saucers and outer space. So he and Kathy wrote a script based on all of the horror and science fiction pictures they had seen. Thus Grave Robbers From Outher Space was born.

The apartment manager, J. Edward Reynolds, having diffucult collecting the rent was conned by Ed into getting his church and some of the mambers to invest in producing the screenplay. Mr. Reynolds, a religious man, wanted to make pictures like Cecil B. DeMille´s Ten Commandments, but Ed successfully talked him into providing money for this project with the idead that a great bibical film could be made with the profit. Mr Reynolds, unwise in the ways of Hollywoods cons,

Made an agreement for an exclusive distrubution licence for a period of time to the property. Various church members cashed in life insurance, mortgaged houses and spent life savings to break into the moving pictures business. Ed´s star Bela Lugosi died in July of 1956, however Ed had serval minutes of film made of Lugosi from years before to promote the ill-fated project The Vambires Tomb. Using  the footage in Grave Robbers would give Ed Wood his star.

His girlfriend´s chriopractor would double for Lugosi. A local TV horror film hostess, Vampira was fired from her job after being accused of being a commie. Criswell, a not so psychic psychic whose predictions were always wrong and a former wrestler named Tor Johnson added to the cast.

Reynolds went to New York and made a distribution agreement with a company named DCA which has affiliations with Pathe the film lab. In the fall of 1958 DCA made eight prints, some posters, previews and changed the titel to Plan 9 From Outer Space because the felt that "Grave Robbers" was an out of date formula titel that dated the picture. In the summer of 1959 Plan 9 played the drive-in circuit at the bottom of the bill and was soon sold to television in a horror film package.
