Women on the move in Skaraborg, Sweden
A brief introduction in English
"Women i Skaraborg" is an idealistic, non-profit organization founded in 1992. The aim and purpose is to work actively with different aspects of development in the county of Skaraborg in order to make the region attractive for both men and women to live and work in.
The organization was founded by women from public administration, politics and trade and industry, who had worked together in arranging the county´s first "Womens Fair of Ideas and Enterprise" which took place in Skövde in 1991. They started "Women in Skaraborg" in order to continue their combined efforts towards development in Skaraborg after the fair.
One of the organization´s main activities has been to arrange a womens fair in Skaraborg every other year. The first two took place in Skövde, the third was held in Skara and the fourth in Lidköping in october, 1997.
Other important aims and purposes of the organization are:
- - to support and promote the development of women´s competence and qualifications
- - to support and promote women´s exchange of experience and ideas
- - to work actively for cooperation among trade and industry, political organizations and public administration
- to promote and encourage knowledge, insight and understanding about the significance and importance of a society based on equality.
The organization has initiated different types of projects. One of them is a very successful mentor´s project for women in different parts of the county.
We also work at establishing networks among women who are united by similar professions or interests.
We arrange activities such as seminars, cultural events and monthly lunches with guest speakers.
Individuals, companies, organizations and public authorities can become members of "Women in Skaraborg". Men, who support the organization are, of course, welcome to join.
