Karik III CD-player
(image from Linn's homepage)
I switched from Mimik to Karik this christmas. It made quite a difference in sound. The Karik is smoother and has more bass than the Mimik. It is twice as expensive as the Mimik, but I find the Karik worth it's price.
Check the image below. This is my Karik.
Karik
advantages over Mimik:
Fast and more robust CD drawer. The drawer ejects in less than a second. Made in aluminum.
The Karik has the possibility to synch to the master clock on the Numerik DAC for less jitter.
Brilliant power supply.
The Karik played my CD's during the dark months of winter 1998. When the summer came along, I was ready to talk to the deamon again...
Numerik DAC
(image from Linn's homepage)
I added the Numerik DAC this summer. It made a huge difference. The bass is even deeper and voices are better than before.
Below is a larger image of the Numerik.
The Karik is
connected to the Numerik via a digital signal cable and a phono
cable.
The phono cable is for synching the Karik clock to the more precise Numerik clock. This solution produces less jitter according to Linn. I only know that it sounds great.
Future Upgrades
Next step I think will be a Kairn Pre-amplifier and a third LK100 power amplifier. Perhaps this christmas? (upgrading twice a year seem to be a good trend.)
The Kairn will be able to retain a certian sound level when switching between different sources. Always a problem when switching from LP to CD...
