There were a couple of things surprised me after buying a 3Dfx card. First getting the GL Quake, second getting "vised maps ". Nothing else could impress more than Quake running with hardware support and "vised maps ", this was simply the best. Here I will explain how to get vised maps (transparent) water onto your Quake.

These patches will not do anything else but give you the transparent water and the minor slowdown the transparent water will give you (transparent water are harder for your computer (fpu) to handle, hence the lower fps...).

Cheating?

Many of you would perhaps consider this cheating, well what can I say. All the guys I play Quake with are also proud owners of 3Dfx card's, so there will be no problem. But on the Internet (Quake World) it could be considered cheating, but those who own A Pentium 233 and ISDN, are those cheaters as well? Quake world servers does show Transparent water only if the server run it, if the server does not, you will not se the entities (weapons and other players), that's that.

Simply unzip the files into an empty directory, run the batch file install.bat, which will detect whatever patch files you have placed in its directory. It will ask you a few simple questions about the directories in which your Quake files are located, and then it will patch your maps. The whole process takes under 10 minutes.
