HUNGARIAN RACE


GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS, features, its uses:

The body of this lively tempered terrier-like dog-species is middle sized. Its head elongated, the nasal part of it is better developed. Its ears are uppstanding, the top of them are bending down abruptly. Its tail is standing upright. Its trunk shows a square shape. Its hair is medium long and does not ever get felty. The eyes and the facial-nasal part is freely perceptible. It is a many coloured species, but it is not pied. It evolved in Hungary in the XVII.-XVIII century from the crossing of the ancient puli with the German and French drive-dogs with upright standing ears got on the country. Its mingling and moulding up with the puli was going on for a long time. It is half a century that it has been separated from the puli and nowadays it is thourougbred. Its temper makes it unable to keep quiet, it is a very lively driver. It is audaciously daring, pushful and therefore also readily used in driving bigger animals. It is of good scent. It proved to be good in exterminating beats of prey and rodents. It is a loud, baying species. Is is prominent in house-watching. Its bears very well even fancy keepin.

ITS HEAD:

The shape of its head is characterized by the elongated facial-nasal part. The crown of the head is bulging and somewhat narrow. The forehead is slightly convex and long. The state of development of its eye-arches is moderate. The stop-line is almost completely straightened out, hardly perceptible. The back of the nose is straight. The elongated nose id getting pointed.

Its lips fit tightly to its set of teeth. Its eyes are a bit slantwise cut and dark brown coloured. The eyelid's edge is tightly closed. The ears are high-set, upright standing, their tips abruptly bent down. They are middle sized, proportional. Their shape that of a reversed V. It moves its ears very lively. Its neck is of a higher setting: above the medium at an angle of 50 - 55 degrees. It is of medium length, somewhat arched, sinewy.

THE FORM OF FORE LIMB:

As a consequence of its square shape the Pumi seems to be long-legged. Its shoulder-blades are steep standing. Its upper arm is short. Its shoulder-curvature is in the plane of the breast. The whole limb is of steep standing. It props the trunk vertically. The two limbs are situated at a medium distance. The pastern is abrupt. The paws are tightly closed. The sole-pad is elastic. The claws are very hard.

THE TRUNK:

Its withers are distinct and long. The upperline of those slopes definitely backwards. Its back is short, its groin of medium length and tightly fixed. Its ribs are less staved, rather flat. The belly is lifted backwards. Its hindquarters are short, slightly sloping, medium wide. Its breast is of straight plane, medium wide. Its chest is deep and long. The tail is fixed high. It is held a bit vertically or somewhat backwards, but distincly upwards.

THE FORM OF THE HIND LIMB:

The hind limb is characterized by its back standing. Beneath the bone and the long thigh the shank is short. The pastern is steep. The paws are roundish, tightly closed. The sole-pad is elastic. Bastard fingers are not wanted. The claws are hard.

HIDE AND HAIR:

Its hide is slate-grey and contains much pigment. The free surfaces of the hide are either black or slate grey. The roof of the mout is dark pigmented. Its tongue is bright red. The claws are slate-grey. Its whole body is covered with medium long, curled hair. Its fur is formed by covering hair and bottom hair. Its hair does not get felty anywhere. The hair is the shortest on the facial-nasal part and on the limbs. Its ears are of medium length, thick, its splinted hair is uprightstanting. IN other parts of its body the hair is either shorter and splinted(: of an average of four cm:) or longer and curly. Its hair can never be of the puli's type, but neither is the smooth type of hair allowed. It often happens that the hair of the chest, the breast and that of the fore limb is shorter, than that of the hinderquarters and that of the hind limb. The colour of the hair varies: the dove-grey, the silver-grey and the slate-grey are very frequent. Black, light grey, White, reddish-brown may also occur. It is a requirement that this spicies should be without any mark and equally not mottled.

SIZE AND WEIGHT:

The height of the withers - measured with a stick- is 35 - 44 cm. The relative measurement of the single parts of the body is - in percentage of that of the withers-measured whit a stich: Length of the trunk - 100% Depth of the chest - 43% Staves on the breast - 30% Measurement of the girdle - 115% Length of the head - 44% The length of the muzzle (nose) equals the 45% of that of the head. The weight of the body is of 8 - 13 kg.

MOTION:

It is a quite lively, constantly bustling species. Its movements are quick, swift. Its step is mincing, its gallop is pokingly bouncing.

TYPEFAULTS, DEFECTS:

Most of the defects of the type orginate from the effects produced by the puli. The puli-like hair and the hanging down of the ears have to be elimineted as a typefault. The upwards standing ear is equally not wanted. Every shape of the tail other than the upwards standing one is to be objected to. The short facial-nasal part diminishes the efficaciousness of the grasp. Light brown eye.

MOTIVES OF EXCLUSION:

Hair getting felty, short, smooth hair. Round head. Pike-like teeth and carp-like ones, which are bigger than two millimeters. Defective pigmentation. Being mottled.
