AMG REVIEW: The huge singles aren't as readily apparent here, but
Jackson begins to reveal more of himself with his album.
"Gone Country" is a
subtly brilliant jab at people who discover country music only
when there's
money to be made. The joke is that Jackson leads the album with
Eddie
Cochran's teenage-angst anthem "Summertime Blues."
Jackson pulls out
chesnuts from the catalogues of Con Hunley and the Kendalls, and
writes "Job
Description" to explain to his daughter why daddy's never
home. In a time when
even artists had trouble telling all the young hat acts apart, a
personal statement
like Who I Am was possibly the smartest move Jackson could have
made. --
