Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. It has much to offer a person on their first visit to Sweden. The city is a beautiful mixture of lakes and islands. It is a place that shouldn't be missed. Travel to and from Stockholm is simple. Stockholm (Arlanda), Swedens main international airport has bus service to and from most areas in Stockholm. You will find it easy to live without a car in Stockholm. It is actually easier to take a train, subway, or bus to your destination than to drive a car. Gamla Stan (The Old City) is on an island in the middle of Stockholm. It is only a 15 minute walk from T-centralen (Stockholms Train and Subway center). On your way, you can see the Riksdagen (Swedens Legislative building). Gamla Stan has many fine sites including the "Medeltidsmuseum" which is one of my two must see museums in Stockholm. The other must see in Stockholm is the "Vasamuseet". This is a museum that shows the history of a ship that sunk in the early 1600s. It may not sound all that exciting, but, I can promise you that it is worth the trip. |
