While experimenting , I found that the Sigma RCS Wireless Receiver, which is normally used for the Sigma Bike Computer could pick up the pulses from a Polar Heart Rate Monitor cheststrap. This way I could get a fairly cheap Heart rate monitor with logging.
The Heart rate monitor comes from Polar http://www.polar.fi.
And the Sigma RCS is from http://www.sigmasport.com.

Software :

Refer to inte Installation procedure in Install

To get the scale to present beats/minute, Enter the preferences screen in  "Menu->Proferences":
Set Circumference to 1667 cm.
Also, Set maxspeed(display) to 190 , 200 ,  or so , depending of how hard your heart usually beats.

Hardware .

I use a Sigma RCS Wireless Receiver, normally used together with Sigma Bike Computers,
to connect it to the Palmpilot, I had to make a custom cable.

I had to take the Receiver apart in order to connect to the connectors of the receiver

Connect the RCS Receiver to a Modem Cable and the Palm Pilot.
I soldered a cable with a RS232 Female connector to the RCS Receiver,
I used pin 3 and 4 of the RS232 Connector.

Fasten the RCS Receiver to the Polar Chest Strap with some tape. Place it near the
end of the elastic strap.
The position is critical, I had to experiment a little to find a good place.

I also recommend to tape the cable to the chests strap a few inches behind the sensor, to ease the tension of the cable. Don't forget to activate the RCS sensor by pressing the yellow button.
