Leoncavallo: I Pagliacci

La Scala's first recording of Pagliacci dates from 1907 and is available commercially at this writing. This 1918 version appears not to be on the market although it offers substantially more musical value. Sonically, this recording is a paradox: the high noise level and crackling sound on most high notes of Act I coexist with generally higher sound quality than in the others of the series and quite satisfying audio in Act II.
