Lars and Catharina and Backen

Lars is born in 1791 and Catharina in 1794. 200 years ago. Catharina's previous history is unknown to me, I only know her full name, Anna Catharina Pettersdotter.

1818 they marry. Lars is a farmshand at the Nilsagården, a farm that occurs a few times in the family history. Catharina is a maid in some other parish than Timmele. Their background is very typical for the rural young ones at this time.

1823 they live at Backen. Maybe they moved there when they married. Backen is closest neighbour to Lars' birthplace Tröka. They have 7 children all together. In 1820 Anna Catharina, Anders 1822, Stina Maria 1824, Per Gustaf 1826, Johan Fredrik 1828, Carl 1832 and at last Johanna Charlotte 1838.

The only profession I find mentioned is that Lars and Catharina are called crofters. And they of course where. But Backen is a very small place, and mostly there lived two or three families, so they must of course have earned their living in more than one way. The crofters normally had to work at the farm that the house belonged to. Backen belonged to the vicarage. But that was only what they had to do to lease the house.

In 1847 all the children except the last two have left home. Anders is interesting, he leaves 1843 to become a farmshand at a farm called Blankared, you can see it on the old map over Backen with surrondings. Six years later, Carl joins him. After two more years Anders have earned enough to buy Nilsagården, the farm his father worked at as young. And Carl follows him. 1852 Anders marries, and 1855 when his first child is born Carl and his coming wife witnesses the baptism ceremony. And later that year Carl and Kajsa marries.

Lars dies sometime between 1838 and 1847. He becomes at most 56 years old. Catharina dies after 1862.
