Basics

Basics

There are lots of Ekman Families. Probably hundreds of them. The name Ekman is a army name or soldiers name that was given to soldiers in Sweden and Finland, and lots of people have this name without being related to each other. I have found the name Ekman in my family first used in 1743 by the soldier Lars Jonasson Ekman. The family has been living for more than 350 years in Timmele parish in the province Västergötland in south-western Sweden, and some members still do. 1880 a young man called Gustaf Emil Ekman left for Brockton MA, and founded an American branch of the family. What I am trying to do is to trace the ancestors and descendants of Gustaf Emils parents. And at least some of the results of these efforts will turn up here.

Language

My first language is Swedish. I am not skilled in using English, so I must ask you to be patient with my efforts of using it. You will find my e-mail address at the bottom of the home page, and I will happily receive advises and corrections.

Construction

Of course this site will always be under construction. I will probably at least need the time to Easter, maybe to Mid Summer to build it up. So if you visit it often there is a chance that you will find something new.

Instructions

Since pictures and maps take some time to load down I have no such items mixed in the text. But if you follow the links to specific persons or places you will find the pictures I have. These pages will therefor take a a lot longer to download than the general pages.

The information is displayed by household. A household is here defined as a man and a woman from the time they marry and their children as long as they are unmarried and other relatives, maids, farmhands and so on that live together. Sometimes I don't know in detail where the the household begins or ends, but I have tried to follow the definition above. If I don't know more about a parent than the name, the parent is described in his childrens household.

The starting point is the family tree. I've had to make several trees linked to each other. When you click a household in the tree you will come to a page with information and links to other households, pages concerning places and so on. Down on the bottom of each page is a link back to this home page. You can always go one step back or ahead using the arrow-keys on your browser.

This is enough, now to the story!
