    If you want to searcg for; let us say nice cars, then you maybe type nice cars, and then push the search button, but then you will get all of the hits om both nice and cars ! What you have to do, so that altavista knows that you're searching for both nice AND cars is to put the text between two "", example: "nice cars", now Altavista know that the two words (can be as many as you want) you're searching for should be together;in a sentence.


    How to search with + and - and *.

    Let us say that you, for an example wants to search for Pamela Anderson, you want to haw both Pamela and Anderson in yore search, or else you'll get hits on both Pamela and Andersson, right... Ok, so what you should do is that you placed a + between the two words (pamela +andersson know you will only score on Pamela Anderson ! The same thing when you uses the - , but then you don't want to includ the words after the -. For example, if you don't wan't to search for pamela andersson, and want's to search for all the pamelas on internet but pamela anderson (bad example but ok...) then you will type: pamela-anderson If you want to get as many hits as many, or if you don't know the whole word youre searching for, then you can use: *. It is exactly as in DOS, it substitutes a word, for example: pamela.* can be both Pamela.Anderson and Pamela.Collins !


    How to search for the text in a homepage.

    If you want's to search for the text in a page, could be a book recesion or what ever you're looking for, then you can search for the text. For example, you want's to find a site with stocks, then you could search for: text:ericsson b and then you will get hits on sites with information about the ericsson b stocks !


    How to search for a homepage title

    If you want to search for a homepage title, then just type title:something. This could be useful, becasue the homepage title tells you about what the page contains.


    How to search for pictures (pix)

    We all need pictures for something, sometimes. I need them for my babe collection and for school, you maybe needs a picture for you're school asignment, or something like that,or if you're a collector like me (if a only had more hard drive !)... Well back to the thing, to search for a picture, just type: image:something. This can also be useful if you have a picture, but don't remember the URL.


    How to search for links

    If you want to search for a page that have links to pamela, or perhaps if somebody has made a link for you're site, then just simply type : link:http://some-url.domain/something.../


    How to search for a pice of an URL

    This can be very useful ! If you for an exeampel have seen a cool adress in a magazine, but only remembers a little part of it, then just simply arite: url: something Try to search for: url:index.htm Many hits, or...

    Active x is microsofts answer to java. Just type object:Marquee and let altavista do the rest...


    How to search for domains

    Just like cars (reg. plates), internet also has a way to make shore where a server is. Just type:domain:se and you will find all of the swedish servers... many, ha ???
