Taltos
In Hungarian Folklore, a Taltos is a shaman born with magical powers to divine the future, manipulate the weather and change into a fire wheel or an animal. In pre-Christian Hungary, they were spiritual leaders. A child born with a tooth already formed or caul (amniotic sack around the head) is an indication of a Taltos. They are rumored to have a "surplus of bones." If a mid-wife removes the tooth from the newborn, the child will not be a Taltos. Their main nourishment is milk and from youth throughout the rest of their lives, they meet other Taltos and fight for supremacy with them by changing into an animal or wheel of fire. A Taltos cannot die until he bequeaths his knowledge to an heir. If their is no heir, a broom can be thrust into his hand then thrown into a fire, and the chain will be broken. A Taltos usually goes into a trance to perform magic and cannot accept payment for his services.
