Curetes

When Rhea gave birth to Zeus he was hidden on a mountain in Crete. Rhea was frightened that Cronus would hear him crying so she had the Curetes wait outside the mountain and bang their shields together, a sound which drowned out all others.

Originally, the Curetes were vegetation demons who lived on Crete in the pre-Grecian time.
