Hotter than Hell

Released 1974. Sold Gold. Peaked at #87 and stayed 23 weeks on the chart.
| Got to choose | One of my all-time favourite Kiss songs. Excellent guitar play from Ace, solid drumming from Peter and very catchy lyrics. I especially like the solo from Ace. You donīt hear songs like this one from Kiss nowadays... |
| Parasite | This is a big concert favourite. Recorded with a live feel. Good singing from Gene. Itīs a bit tough to like in the beginning but when you get into the "sexy rythm" of the song itīs great. The musical part in the middle with Aceīs solo is just great and makes me wanna stand up and bang my head and dream away to a concert. |
| Going blind | "A thriller", said a swedish newspaper when they reviewed the unplugged version. This one is almost as good. Rather strange lyrics, but as Gene puts it: "It feels right!". Kind of sad and you can clearly hear that Geneīs behind it musically. No solo here but you donīt miss it. |
| Hotter than Hell | Title track. Written by mr Stanley. An excellent example of how you should write a catchy rock nīroll tune. My first favourite out of this record. I think it would do great with more modern sound and if done a bit faster. |
| Let me go, Rock nīroll | Another concert favourite. A classic rock song. Simple chords and melody and a kick-ass feel to it. Still, itīs not one of my favourites. It sounds fairly good at concerts but somehow itīs a bit too boring to play at home. |
| All the way | My second favourite when I first got the record. Great, simple riffs done with an attitude. Maybe not live material but itīs a nice catchy song. |
| Watching you | Another Kiss classic. I had a hard time getting into the song in the beginning but once again itīs that sexy rythm. Great drumming from Peter. And Geneīs great on vocals (as always). No real solo on this one. Played very much live! |
| Mainline | Written by Paul but Peter sings it. Sounds a bit country to me and the worst song on the album. Too simple chorus and that country-feel doesnīt do it for me. Sorry Peter! |
| Cominī home | Written by Paul & Ace. A great song with Paul on vocals. Typical for Paul and it suits his voice perfectly, although I like the unplugged version better. This studio version doesnīt quite have the edge but it still is a good song. |
| Strange ways | A very dark song written by Ace and it sounds very much like his solo material. Vocals is done great by Peter and his drumming on this one is interesting. Aceīs solo is just out there and the whole feel of the song is "strange"-ly good! |
Overall itīs one of their best albums. It was intentionally recorded with a live "feel". It has maybe the worst artwork on any Kiss record. A must-buy if you want to hear the early Kiss at itīs best.
