Psycho circus

Released 1998. Sold Gold. Peaked at #3 and stayed ?? weeks on the chart.

Psycho circus A great song by Paul and the natural choice for the first single.Sounds more like the 80īs than 70īs. The lyrics are simple but great and you really get hit with pure energy. Perhaps the best song of them all...
Within A song by Gene left over from COS and you can hear that rather easily. Weird intro with music playing backwards but once you have played it a few times the song grows. Definitely one of the better songs of the album.
I pledge allegiance The first song with a 70īs sound. Real simple but kind of catchy. Not one of the best but definately not one of the worst. A straight-on rock-song! Maybe the most anthem-like of them.
Into the void This is Aceīs contribution. By many regarded as the songthat sounds msot 70īs. I donīt agree with that. Itīs more Ace during the 80īs than Ace of the 70īs. And I like the latter more. Still, I think it worked well during concert. And itīs not so bad as some of the things from his Comet-era.
We are one This one is the weirdest. Written by Gene and the song with the least Kiss-feel. But donīt get me wrong here... I LOVE IT! Accoustic guitars and a pop-ish sound to it, and the first thing I come to think of is actually Backstreet boys (!) or some other "boy-band". But that is really a compliment from me since it shows that KISS can still surprise and show that they actually have very broad musical abilities. The second single here in Sweden but it didnīt do very well.
You wanted the best OK, a Gene-song with the lyrics taken from different interviews with the band members when they were the most angry at each other. Everyone sings lead, and it really shows that Kiss has gotten past their old fights. As a song itīs not that great. Rather embarrassing actually.
Raise your glasses One of the best songs, and again by Paul. Great lyrics and a really catchy melody. Should have been included in the setlist for the tour..
I finally found my way Ohhhh nooooo! This is a poor try to copy Beth and they donīt succed at all. Peters singing is ok, but the song really sucks. Where Beth were beautiful and well composed "I finally..." just doesnīt sound at all like a rockballad should do. Guess Bob Ezrin is to blame since he wrote the music. And the song reaches new embarrassing heights on the bridge-part when Peter & Paul sings "weīd dance the night away". You can hear their voices breaking at the high notes.
Dreaminī My second best favourite from this record also made by Paul. A bit darker than the rest and Pauls voice really kicks ass on this one. That guy seem to only get better by every year. Catchy chorus and killer riffs. Deserves to get on a single.
Journey of 1.000 years I get a "The Elder"-feeling when I hear this but itīs not that good. It starts of very well but when you come to the big musical part at the end I just get bored. Itīs Pauls solo from Psycho Circus, and I donīt want to hear that again... Maybe they tried to make it a nice ending for the record by ending with what they started but it doesnīt work for me.

Overall Iīm satisfied with Psycho Circus. Especially songs like the title track, Dreaminī, Raise your glasses and We are one. Iīm just sorry they had to put Peter in the studio with the awful "I finally found...", he deserves something better! And "You wanted the best..." was a good idea but the song itself isnīt. But nevertheless, It kicks ass and proves that Kiss is not at the end. They are merely picking up where they left off and I have to admit that when this record sinks in it leaves a certain Destroyer-feel.
