Detroit rock city Written by Paul and Bob Ezrin, the producer. Great start of the record. Originally written when they heard of some kid being killed in an accident when he was trying to get to one of their shows. A great tribute to their fans and the best song in my opinion up to date. I especially like the solo. Itīs probably the simplest one theyīve done but it sounds just perfect within the song. Fast-paced as it is, itīs hard to sit still. I canīt think of a better way to be rockinī and rollinī.
King of the nighttime world I have to confess I didnīt like this song very much in the beginning and now I canīt see why. Somehow itīs a little bit better live and by far the best performance during the Psycho Circus show I saw. I like the solo and Peters fast-paced drumming in the background.
God of thunder Originally written by Paul but the singing is done by Gene. And it suits him better since itīs very heavy and dark. This studio version is a bit too slow for me but itīs still a great song. This is the one that begins with Genes bloodspitting when performed live. A lot of weird sounds and you kind of get a creepy feeling, suitable to a song by the Demon! I also think this is the first time they experiment with instruments playing backwards. (The drums this time!)
Great Expectations A different Gene-song. I like the lyrics but the music doesnīt really grab me. The verse is a lot better than the chorus though.
Flaming youth Written by all except Peter. A catchy little rock-tune. This seem to be many peopleīs favorite song according to the people Iīve talked to. I love the lyrics and the music is nice but it doesnīt get me up "there"! Another song with a choir. Donīt really like that but itīs not so bad on this one.
Sweet pain Written and sung by Gene. An ok song but nothing more. Itīs nice that they can experiment and this one is really good, but itīs not what I want to hear from them. Good solos though.
Shout it out loud A Simmons/Stanley song. (Aint these the best?) Another one of the live classics. Straight-between-the-eyes rockīn roll. Fun lyrics and a killer-chorus. No matter how tired and down I am this one always gets me going!
Beth This is Peters high point during the shows. It brought out a tear from my eye during the reunion tour. A great piano-ballad that hits you right in the heart. I just wish they would try the guitar version from Phantom of the park sometime. Itīs even better but this one is good enough. My second favourite ballad after I still love you.
Do you love me One of the better songs off the albums and this is also a live classic. Easy to sing along with. Not much else to say about it. Itīs a good song!

Excellent artwork! This is considered to be their best effort along with Alive! Up until now Iīve always thought that itīs a bit overrated. But now that Iīve listened to every song separately it really is a great album. Maybe too experimental for my taste but still a great album. I mean, 6 songs is still played live so it must be good!
