Creatures of the night

Released 1982. Sold Gold. Peaked at #45 and stayed 19 weeks on the chart.

Creatures of the night As many KISS records this begins with a kick-ass song by mr Paul Stanley. This first track sets a darker tone than all the previous records. Heavy lyrics and bone-crunching guitars. A real killer.
Killer Written by Gene Simmons and Vinnie Vincent. Ordinary at first, but Gene makes it something special. The chorus is strange and repetetive and sounds a bit apocalyptic.
Keep me comin' Another one of those Paul Stanley-songs with sexy rythm. His singing is great on this one, as it is on the whole record. Not much of a chorus on this one but since the music is so good you donīt mind.
Rock and roll hell One of my all-time favourite Gene-songs. Kind of sad lyrics and the song as a whole is really moving.
Danger Good guitarplay on this one. This one is a bit faster than the others, but itīs still easy to get along with. Paulīs singing sees to that.
I love it loud This is one song with real hit-feeling. Itīs dark, itīs anthem, itīs a real killer! Even if people havenīt heard of KISS before, you can be almost sure they have heard this song. Itīs written by Paul and Vinnie Vincent. I especially like Eric Carrs heavy drumbeat. Great song!
I still love you I said in some other review that I have a soft spot for Stanleys ballads. Well, if that is true then this is his master piece. One critic in Sweden called it the best ballad of hard rock music. I agree 100%. It has a moving melody, power to the sound and lyrics and you can hear that Paul is giving everything singing this one. The solo is just another example of all this.
Saint and sinner A kind of groovy Gene-song. The chorus doesnīt appeal to me but the rest of the song is good. If I were to pick out one "bad" song this would probably be it. Still the song isnīt that bad and both the guitars and the drums are doing some good things here.
War machine This is a true master-piece from The Demon. An excellent song to end the record with. Itīs the same bone-crunching, anthem-like song as I love it loud. Iīve always wanted to hear this one live but now it seem I will never be able to. Great solo works perfectly with the rest of the song and Ericīs heavy drumming is flawless.

Ok, after two different albums KISS decided to go back to some heavy and dark rockīn roll. This is their darkest album yet and I think it has not gotten the credit it deserves. Thereīs not one crappy song on it and the songs that are there kicks ass. The original artwork really enhances the dark feeling you get from the music. Is this maybe the best of the best? I donīt know but my rating is sky-high.
