I have seen The Hellacopters a few times now. I know how good a live band they are so they didn't surprise me in Nyköping. The band that surprised me was the support act, Turpentines. They were really good. Turpentines have been touring with The Hellacopters for weeks now and wherever there's an opportunity, the guys of The Hellacopters have been telling everybody how wonderful band The Turpentines is. I agree, although I've known the guys for years and therefore cannot listen to them with fresh ears. I want to like The Turpentines. The concert in Nyköping was meant for youngsters who are not allowed to enter restaurants and clubs that serve alcohol. You wasn't allowed to drink or even smoke in the building. Only in backstage. The Hellacopters took it very easy, though. No booze, no drugs what so ever. I saw nothing, anyway. They respected the rules of the place. I was there with the Doctor's Special members Pelle and Fredde. They also respected the rules. They were almost sober. Macke, the singer of The Turpentines told me that he was a bit of surprised of the amount of sex and drugs on their tour with The Hellacopters. There was so little of it. Nicke, Dregen & co weren't interested of the groupies or drugs, they'd rather drank beer and "discussed rock'n'roll" with the guys. When touring in Finland, Robert, the drummer, was asked in an interview of his favorite drug. "Marijuana", he replied. "I was rather surprised of the question. What the hell should I have answered?" he told me in Nyköping. The Finnish journalist had thought he was cool when he answered truly and didn't lie something like "I don't use drugs" and so on. The guys in Turpentines told me that Nicke had said in a TV interview in Finland that the piano (Fender Rhodes) player Boba Fett and Nina Persson in Cardigans were in love. That's why The Hellacopters had arranged a tour in Japan the following week. The Cardigans were there and Boba just had to spend some time with her lover Nina. Hilarious. I don't know if the journalist bought it. Well, the concert was good. The acoustics of the concert hall was not that good. The room was too small. The Turpentines sounded good, they don't tune their guitars lower that normal. The Hellacopters do. It was loud. It was raw. But not brilliant. The whole building was humming and it was too hot. It started to feel annoying after less than a half an hour. They should have stopped there. I stopped listening and went aside to talk with my friends instead. What happened afterwards was just too insane to be true. Well, the guys of The Turpentines and The Hellacopters told that they will drink some beers at the local club Penny Lane after they'd packed their instruments in their van. Nicke and Dregen were supposed to be disc-jockeys there for a while. I, Pelle and Fredde went there a little earlier. We told the club owner that we were with The Hellacopters. We didn't have stand in the queue, we came straight in. He shook hands with us and started to buy us beers. Well, that's nice, we thought at first, but we just had to reveal to him that we weren't really any members of The Hellacopters, we just hanged out with them and The Turpentines. "That's all right", he replied and asked if we wanted some more to drink. A really nice guy, the club owner. Then the rest of the gang came. The club owner, Helge, asked if it was possible for some of the band members to act bartenders for a while. He wanted to show of with celebrities in his club. OH YES!!! The Hellacopters answered. After a few seconds a hell broke loose in the bar. Every one of the group were making all kind of drinks in the bar. The members of the both bands and their road crew were throwing ice cubes, trying every bottle and crane in the bar and there were booze and beer everywhere. If someone wanted to pay something for their drinks, they would. If not, it was on the house. For everyone. Boba Fett had to taste every drink he made, he didn't know what he had thrown in the glass. Nicke wrote new signs telling people that the drink "Riot On The Rocks" had special price that evening and oh how drunk everyone was after a while. It was so hilarious to watch. I told that I had to drive home afterwards and I wanted something with just a little alcohol in it. Boba Fett gave me a large tequila! Great... Pelle and Fredde were drinking like madmen. After less than an hour Pelle got so drunk that he had to stop drinking or he would die or something. That's what he said. Fredde didn't stop. He didn't die either but he was so far out in space somewhere that he didn't find his way to the car afterwards. I had to stop a police car (!) and ask for their help to find him. The policemen drove around in Nyköping and finally found him, I was sitting in the back seat. Fredde didn't know if he had taken left or right when he climbed out of the club. Well, it happens. When you drink gin and tonics in large beer glasses. By the way, nobody was dancing in the discotheque when Nicke and Dregen were disc-jockeys. How do you dance to MC5's "Kick Out The Jams" and that kind of stuff? Well, the music was good. And the drinks free. Thank you, Hellacopters, for a wonderful night. And thanks to you, Helge!
