HMClock ver 1.01

Disclaimer

HMCLOCK is free. You may use it and copy it (in its original archive) as much as you like. You may NOT change it in any way. HMCLOCK is distributed as is. I take no responsibility whatsoever if it doesn't work, if it hangs your system, or if it causes any other kind of damage. To put it simple - you use this program at your own risk.

Introduction

The program HMCLOCK is designed to display the current date, time, week , and day in a small window somewhere on the screen. I started working on this program because I needed a clock program capable of displaying not only the date and time, but also the current week number and day number.

I gave it to some friends who soon came up with quite a few ideas on how to improve the program. The first version didn't have any options at all and used the caption of the window to display time and date. Its position was also locked.

I decided to create a program that would fit the needs of most people. The user should be able to choose the type of information displayed, the position of the window, the color and font. I also included a simple alarm function. The program should run under both Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 (it actually runs fine under Windows NT too). It should also adapt its display according to the intl-section of win.ini.

The program was written entirely in Borland Pascal 7.0.

Credits

I have received a lot of help from my friends (as the song goes) testing the program and from some people I got in touch with through the Internet. Thank you all! (You know who you are.)

Instructions

To install the program, simply copy the executable to a directory of your choice. Make sure you have the CTL3D.DLL file (included in the archive) in your Windows system directory! Then create a shortcut to the program. You may also want to put it in your autostart folder.

The first time the program is executed it will create a default .ini file (HMCLOCK.INI).

If you want to change the way the display look, simply right-click the window to bring up the setup dialog. If you want to move the window, it works just like any other window even though it doesn't have a caption. Please note that you must choose "Selected position" in the setup dialog in order to keep your newly selected position.

The setup dialog gives you a number of opportunities to change the way the program displays the date and time. It should be self-explanatory. If you can't choose a sound file, it's because your system is unable to play .wav files.

Finally, a warning. Don't ever try to edit the intl-section of win.ini manually, unless you're absolutely sure of what you're doing. The program relies on these settings to be valid, if they're not - anything could happen. If you want to change these settings, use the Control Panel. The win.ini settings could also have been corrupted by another program, in which case HMCLOCK will probably display garbage or fail to work at all.
