2. 1997 Castello di Brolio. Chianti Classico. 235 SEK
Dark red, slightly orange tinged. Good bouquet, mature, ripe fruit, some oak. Full, well structured, aromatic taste, tannins and acidity and nice, sweet fruit. Good aftertaste and developed well in the glass. Good now. (16p)

3. 1999 Castello di Brolio. Chianti Classico. 265 SEK
Dark red. Mature bouquet, a bit burned and leathery. Tannic, fullish, slightly bitter taste, good with food but seems to loose fruit (14p)

4. 2000 Castello di Brolio. Chianti Classico. 279 SEK
Dark purple-red. Rich, fruity nose with red berries and cassis. Full, tannic taste, good acidity and a nice aftertaste. (15p)

Dark red. Fine, mature bouquet with oak and fruit. Full, fruity taste, oak, tannins and crisp acidity but also lots of extract. Will keep. (16p)

Comments: Good wines but the 1999 and 2000 were slightly disappointing when the labels were revealed. Far too expensive.
458. Dec 17, 2004. Cheap bargains at Systembolaget. CG Dahl.
Tasting notes by Lars Jonsson

1. 2003 Montepulciano d´Abruzzo Bianchi, Abruzzo, Umani Ronchi. 60 Skr.
Young, light fruitiness, stright, easygoing wine. 11 p (P+)

2. 2000 José de Sousa, Alantejo, J M da Fonseca. 73 SEK
Interresting, partly made in gigantic jars of clay, rather young wine with cherries, red currants and liquorice. 12 p (P+)

3. 2003 Ramos, Alantejo, J Portugal Ramos. 69 SEK
Darker, slightly purple rim, an easy wine with cherries, raspberries, also with warmth and roundiness 12 p (P+)

4. 2003 La Vida, Central Valley. Chile. 59 SEK
Purple, rather light, with red berries, cassis, cherrystones, herbs, grassiness (Chile) and mint 13 p (P++)

5. 2003 Vila Santa, Alantejo, J Portugal Ramos. 99 SEK
Darker, young, red and some black berries, raspberries, cherries, oaky, with some complexity and balance; a little bit too young at the moment, keep 2-3 years. 14 p (P+)

457. Dec 3, 2004. Bandol. Anders Lidén

1. 2000 Domaine du Gros Noré. 11 EUR at the Dom.
Dark red. Fine, fruity nose with oriental spices and some oak. Full, tannic, rich, young, fruity taste. (15p)

2. 2001 Le Galantin. 9 EUR at the Dom.
Dark red. Medium, undeveloped nose, ripe fruit, butterscotch. Full, tough, tannic taste, red and black berries (15p)

3. 2000 Le Galantin. 9 EUR at the Dom.
Dark red. Fine, very fruity nose, Full, tannic taste, lost of acidity, complex, balanced aftertaste. Still young but very promising. (16p)

4. 1997 Le Galantin. 160 SEK
Dark medium red. Medium bouquet, smoky oak. Full, mature taste, good acidity, quite long, oaky, portish aftertaste (15p)

5. 1995 Le Galantin. 14 EUR at the Dom.
Dark medium red. Quite a big bouquet, oak, spices, fruit. Medium full, tannic taste with fruit (15p)

Comments: All wines were very well liked among the tasters which is quite unusual! Some preferred the more mature style of the two oldest wines, while other liked the rich, tough "masculine" style of the younger ones. This is no doubt very appealing to the Swedish palate

456. Nov 19, 2004. Greece: Naxos. Björn Aksell

1. Promponas. 4.20 EUR
Pale red. Medium nose, some fruit, red berries. Crisp, light taste, berries, kind of refreshing but short aftertaste (10p)

2. Naxos Baccus Promponas. 6.20 EUR
Light medium red. Quite nice nose, dried fruit, smoke, wine gums. Medium full, quite fruity and crisp taste, some tannins, dusty, red berries. (10p)

3. Domus. Venetian Museum Castro. 7 EUR
Light medium red. Medium nose with raspberries. Medium full, with some body, soft fruit with some intensity and a reasonable aftertaste (11p)

4. Eidolo. Taki's Shop. 8 EUR
Light medium red. Quite a mature bouquet with some cassis and strawberries. Medium full, crisp taste, with tannins, nice fruit and a decent aftertaste.(11p)

Comments: These were examples of traditional Greek wines. They are seldom exciting*, but these were not bad either. We were served a "Notios" Agioritiko from Gaia, Peleponessos, 79 SEK with the moussaka which was a good example of a modern Greek wine. Dark red, lots of ripe fruit, fullish, well balanced, 13p. (* we had some really terrible examples on Crete this summer, the message is: Beware!)
455. Nov 5, 2004. Round Up The Usual Suspects. Olof Persson.

1. 1988 Chateau La Louviere. Graves. 95 SEK in 1992.
Dark red, orange tinged. Mature medium bouquet, smoke, oak, leather, spices. Medium full, mature taste, high acidity, medium aftertaste. Quite OK, but past its best, the other tasters liked it less than I did.(14p)

2. 1988 Chateau Siran. Margaux. 137 SEK in 1990
Dark red, maturing but bright. A bit closed but good bouquet with cassis, violets and oak. Full, quite tannic taste, good acidity, cassis oak and a good aftertaste. (15p)

3. 1988 Ch Verdignan. Haut-Médoc. 96 kr in 1997
Dark red, brownish tinged. Mature bouquet, but nice fruit; blueberries and black currants. Mature, medium full taste, high acidity, leather. A bit short aftertaste. Rated higher by some of the other tasters. (13p)

4. 1988 Ch La Lagune. 3. Cru. Haut-Médoc. 183 SEK in 1995
Dark red. Fine, youthful delicate bouquet, cassis, violets and oak. Full, pure fruity taste with oak. Lovely balance and a good aftertaste. (16p)

5. 1988 Ch Batailley. 5. Cru. Pauillac. 120 SEK in 1990
Dark red. A bit closed on the nose, vegetables, smoky oak. Medium full, tannic taste, a bit tart and green taste, tobacco. Disappointing (13p)

Comments: I have over the last year tasted several of my 1988 Bordeaux. Some of them have developed quite well so I put together a selection of wines that should be well known for the members of Ansvar. Generally, the wines seem to be well coloured, quite tannic and with high acidity. Some have indeed developed well, like Siran and La Lagune, while others are now falling apart. So my advise is to drink now.

454. Oct 22, 2004 Champagne, c'est toujour Champagne, ou..? Håkan Olsson.

1. Cava Roura Brut Nature. Spain. 103 SEK
Straw yellow. Medium, straight-forward nose with apples and bread. Medium full, slighly earthy taste, bread, slightly bitter finish (12p)

2. 1997 Chauvignon Blanc, Sjoeblom Vinery. Anderson Valley. USA. 159 SEK
Straw yellow. Fruity nose. Medium full, overripe apples, sweetish, but good acidity. (14p)

3. Comte Audoin De Dampierre Cuvée des Ambassadeurs. Champagne. 239 SEK
Straw coloured. Medium nose with fruit and champignons. Dry, modest fruit, good acidity, medium full. (13p)

4. 1998 Blue Pyrenees Midnight Brut. Victoria, Australia.172 SEK
Straw coloured. Fine, fruity bouquet with pears. Fullish, rich taste, good fruit, long aftertaste and a long-lasting mousse (15p+)

5. Mailly Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs. Champagne. 269 SEK
Orange-tinged yellow. Fine, medium bouquet, citrus and apples. Medium full, very well balanced and elegant, good acidity. Good, but did not keep so well in the glass as the wine above (15p)

CommentsWe had very diverging opinions about these wines. But the general feeling was thas the true champagnes didn't perform well as one should expect from the price tag.

453. Oct 1, 2004. Australia and Portugal. Nils Kjellén.

1. 2001 Gapstead Ballerina Shiraz. SE Australia. 109 SEK
Dark red. Rich, fruity nose, oak. Full, very crisp, fruity taste, raspberries, cassis and oak. Short aftertaste (12p)

2. 2002 Hollick Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot. Coonawarra. 129 SEK
Dark red, lots of pigment. Very fruity nose, slightly jammy black currants. Full, acidity (acidified?) almost boiled fruit, low tannins, short aftertaste (11p)

3. 2002 Oxford Landing Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz. Yalumba. 78 SEK
Dark red. Good, fruity flavours on the nose, some oak. Full taste, high acidity, moderate tannins, violets and cassis. (14p)

4. 2001 Quinta da Courtezia Touriga Nacional. Estremadura. Caves Aliança. 109 SEK
Dark red. Interesting nose with, dark berries, mint and toasted oak. Full, rich taste, well balanced tannins and acidity. Nice aftertaste (14p)

5. 201 Quinta de Fonte de Ouro. Dão. Boas Quintas. 186 SEK
Dark red, lots of pigments. Fine, aromatic bouquet, spicy, meaty, almost Syrahish, some oak. Full, quite tannic, rich taste, balanced, and a long aftertaste (15p)

Comments: I can't say that was particularly impressed by the first two Australian wines. Quite pleasing flavours initially on the nose, but a bit one-dimensional, processed taste with no real length. The Oxford Landing was much better and a real bargain. Nice and well made Portugese wines, but Boas Quintas should be careful about the pricing policy IMHO.

452. Sept 17, 2004. Alentejo, Portugal. Hans Eriksson.

1. 2002 Trincadeira. João Portugal Ramos. 128 SEK
Dark ruby. Good, fruity flavours, spices and oak. Full, fruity taste, good acidity. (14p)

2. 2001 Aragones. João Portugal Ramos. 117 SEK

Medium red. Medium, mature nose. Medium full, some fruit, slightly jammy - Basset's wine gums. (13p)

Dark medium red. Mature, leathery, dark berries. Medium full, high acidity, cherries, medium aftertaste. (13p)

3. 2002 Cline. 89 SEK Medium red. Quite mature, a bit woody with varnish, developing a bit jamm Pinot-like nose, toasted oak. Medium full, well balanced taste. (14p)

4. 2001 Woodbridge. 81 SEK Dark medium red. A bit closed, but fruity nose. Full, fruity taste, a bit clumsy and alcoholic. (13p)

5. 2001 Beringer Founders Estate. 104 SEK Dark red. At first a bit closed nose, but developed a pleasant bouquet of dark berries, chocolate and oak. Good, rich taste, well balanced, nice aftertaste. (15p)

Comments: Some wellmade, tasty and nice wines as Zinfandels from good producers usually are. We had some problems to identify them, and if one should be a bit critical, they tended to lack personality.

450. July 30, 2004. An Italian Mix. Lars Jonsson

1. 2001 Valpolicella Zenato. 94 SEK
Dark red, well pigmented. Good, fruity nose with plums and black currants. Fullish, good acidity, medium tannins, finishes a bit short (12p)

Dark medium red. Pleasant, young, fruity flavours, cherries, raspberries, some toasted oak. Fullish, fruity taste, good acidity, well balanced, pleasing wine. (13p)

3. 1994 Valpolicella Superiore. Dal Forno Romano. 298 SEK
Dark red, well pigmented maturing rim. Rich, intense bouquet, lots of fruit and oak. Some volatile acid. Full, tannic taste, lots of extract, high acidity and a long aftertaste. Should benefit from cellaring a few more years, but good now. Controversial and not liked by everyone in the group. (17p)

4. 1997 Morago. Pasqua 149 SEK
Very dark red, lots of pigments. Poor bottle. Not rated.

5. 1998 Fobbiano. La Carraia. (70% Merlot, 30% Cab S) IGT Umbria. 175 SEK
Dark red, lots of pigments. Powerful, maturing bouquet, blueberries and black currants. Some oak. Full, fruity, well structured, balanced taste. Clearly a Merlot dominated wine. Long aftertaste. Very good (16p)

449: July 16, 2004. A Crozes Hermitage "La Petite Ruche" Vertical. C G Dahl.

1. 2001 "La Petite Ruche" Crozes Hermitage. Chapoutier. 109 SEK in 2003
Dark red. Fine, youthful, spicy fruit, plums, cassis. Fullish, spicy, sweet-fruity taste, good acidity, moderate tannins (14p)

2. 1997. "La Petite Ruche" Crozes Hermitage. Chapoutier. 99 SEK in 1999
Dark red, slightly brick-red rim. Medium nose, quite spicy, nice fruit. Full, good acidity and tannins, good fruit, good aftertaste (15p)

3. 1999. "La Petite Ruche" Crozes Hermitage. Chapoutier. 109 SEK in 2002
Dark red. Fruity nose, some oak. Medium full, good acidity, well balanced. Good, but slightly disappointing in context of this great vintage in Northern Rhône.(14p)

4. 1994. "La Petite Ruche" Crozes Hermitage. Chapoutier. 102 SEK in 1996
Dark medium-red. Medium nose, some spicy plummy fruit. Fullish, good acidity, spicy fruit, short aftertaste and did not develop particularly well in the glass (13p)

5. 1995. "La Petite Ruche" Crozes Hermitage. Chapoutier. 99 SEK in 1997
Dark red. At first a rich, oaky, fruity nose. Medium full, tannic taste, drying out, slightly bitter, odd papery flavours. Definitely past its best (12p?)

Comments: La Petite Ruche is a reliable example of Crozes Hermitage. This tasting suggests that it should be drunk relatively young, perhaps within 5-7 years of the vintage.

448. July 2, 2004. Rosé. Anders Lidén

1. 2003 Santa Digna Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé. Torres. Curico, Chile 69 kr

Dark red, brick-red rim. A bit tight nose. Medium full, good acidity, medium tannins, good attack, well balanced, but finishes a bit short (15p)

4. 1999 Domaine Grande Romane. Gigondas. 125 SEK (99 DKK) in 2001
Dark red, still some purple. Fine, interesting nose, fruit and oriental spices, some new oak. Full, crisp taste, good fruit, oak and a long aftertaste. (16p)

5. 1988 Ch Belgrave. Haut-Médoc. 92 SEK in 1992
Very dark red, brick-red rim. Very mature bouquet. Medium full, quite tannic, supple taste. Loosing fruit. (13p)

Comments: It might seem a bit odd to include a Bordeaux in this tasting, but it was meant as reference. The members of this group are Bordeaux-freaks.

446. June 4, 2004. Björn Aksell.

1. 2002 Riesling Kabinett. Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. Moselland. 56 SEK
Pale yellow. Nice fruity, flowery nose. Semi-dry, fruity taste, apples, short aftertaste. (10p)

3. 1988 Ch Margaux. 400 SEK in 1989
Dark red. Good bouquet, slightly spicy, black currants and oak. Full, oaky taste, good fruit, but lacking in midtaste. Good, but quite tannic and high acidity, a but unbalanced. Will keep though. (16p).

4. 1990 Ch Margaux. 400 SEK in 1991
Dark red. Lovely bouquet, spices, some fruit and toasted oak. Full, lots of extract, long, fruity taste, perfect balance. Needless to say more. (19p).

Comments: As most people know, Parker has rated the 1990 Margaux 100p. Why did I not give it a full score? While I found the taste to be perfect, the bouquet did not really blossom yet. It will probably develop. But most of us agreed upon that this is about as good as a wine can be. One claimed that the 1989 Haut Brion is even better! To bad the 1986 was slightly corked!

Comments: It seems as if Weinert's Cabernet not a wine for keeping.

1. 2000 Sterling Vineyards Napa Valley. (160 SEK in the US 2003)

2. 1999 Noble One Botrytis Semillion. de Bortoli. Australia. 149 SEK
Deep golden. Quite intense nose, honey, raisins, botrytis (ethylacetate) and oak. Very sweet, thick, chewy, fruity taste, good acidity, good aftertaste (15p).

Amber. Slightly burned, smoky nose, raisins. Quite sweet and with a distinct acidity, medium fruit, peaches and mint. Medium aftertaste (14p)

4. 1995 Bastor Lamontagne. Sauternes 149 SEK
Corked

Comments: The Sauternes was included as reference but what a pity that it was corked. The other wines were good, and kept well in the glass despite their rich sweetness. We continued the session with some Gorgonzola and Roquefort and finished with Vin Santo and cantuccinis. A real treat for us with a sweet tooth

438. Jan 16, 2004. A Ch Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Vertical. Olof Persson.

1. 1990. 195 SEK in 1991 (primeur sale in Denmark)
Dark red, slightly paler than the others. Fine, open, fruit flavored, cassis and oak. Fullish, soft tannins and good acidity, promising taste but feels short and loose-knit in comparison with the rest (16p)

2. 1988. 210 SEK in 1989 (primeur sale in Denmark)
Dark red, plenty of pigments, brick red rim. At first closed but soon opened up displaying plenty of ripe fruit, violets and oak, complex. Full, well structured, tannins, acidity, and plenty of fruit. Good, long persisting aftertaste. Very drinkable now, but will keep and perhaps develop further (17p)

3. 1986. 203 SEK in 1987 (primeur sale in Denmark)
Very dark red, well pigmented rim. Closed on the nose, opened up a bit revealing cassis and oak. Full, strong, very tannic taste, lots of fruit, almost like port. Feels unready. (16p)

4. 1983. 300 SEK in 1990.
Dark red, maturing. Lovely, intense bouquet, cedar, cassis, spices, complex and kept well in the glass. Full, mature taste, extremely well balanced, still vigorous. Developed very well in the glass. (18p+)

Comments: Pichon Lalande has for long been a favorite of this tasting group. Some of us attended a tasting with Mme de Lencquesaing here in Sweden in 1993, and some has also visited the chateau. One of the aims of this tasting was to investigate how good (or bad) is the 1990 Pichon Lalande as Robert Parker has rated it 79pts only. We have tasted it on several previous occasions and I have scored it 16/20 pts twice. And again, I cannot really understand RP on this wine. OK, it may be a bit disappointing in context of the vintage but it's still a very good wine indeed. The 1988 was better than I had hoped for (RP: 90p, also a bit low) and voted the best by 3 in the group. The 1986 (RP: 94p) was difficult, it felt unready, but will the fruit outlive the tannins? The remains in the bottle tasted well the morning after so I think it has a chance. And the the 1983 (RP: 94p): Just lovely, and liked best by 4 of us. Mature, but not too old. Wish I had some more. The guys performed well this evening. Bordeaux and Haut-Médoc was immediately recognized, but was it St Julien or Pauillac? (Some of the vineyards are actually situated in St Julien!) Then someone asked "Is it May's wine?" and the game was over.
