NOW PLAYING

November 19, 2000

November turned out an amazingly good month for music. There are so much new music and so little time to write about it, that I just have to keep on doing these short musical notes. Anyways, as you all hopefully know, this site is maintained with my sincere belief that all music mentioned here is worth to investigate and even spend some hard earned pennies on. So please stay tuned and keep in touch.

BROTHERS´VIBE:
El Baile (The Dance)
(SomUnderground 12")

Well styled acoustic deep house from Brothers´ Vibe. A shade too long, but well worth to investigate while waiting for Jepthes Guillaume´s next release.

THE PRINCE OF DANCE:
Show Me feat Lisa Angel
(Nitsa Recordings 12")

Top notch disco house from Spain. Show Me comes in three largely different remixes. The long trance instrumental remix on the flip is most effective afterhours. The Deep Angelic remix is funky footfood for groovers, and the Lustful Love Dub fits in the hard house mix. One of the ten best tunes so for this year. Devastatingly cool music!

JEROME SYDENHAM:
Aro
(Ibadan Recordings 12")

Kerri Chandler and Joe Claussell´s label mate and long time collaborator Jerome Sydenham comes clean with groovy afro-house cut. Live brass, guitars and bass and the spirit of New York. Aro is a tasty bit from Chandler´s & Sydenham´s forthcoming album Saturday. Love it!

DAVID ALVARADO:
Sunstone/Devotional
(Peace Frog Records 12")

David Alvardo is back with two percussive deep house jams. Sunstone is fast a driving, aimed at the foots. Devotional with congas and ambient synth chords is spiritual in the same way as Antonio´s music usually are. Nice one from Alvardo, but not as essential as last years killer tune Klugh.

WOOKIE feat LAIN:
Get Enuff
(S2S Recordings 12")

Wookie can obviously not do anything wrong at the moment. Get Enuff is the second release from his excellent debut album, and it is even better than Battle. No, not better, they are both magnificent jams, but where Battle turned out to be a stripped down beats monster, Get Enuff comes across as funky and soulful in a softer mode. Try the Extended Mix. Brilliant music!

DUB TAYLOR:
I Can´t Fall In Love With Another One/Saturday Morning/Lush
(Force Track Recordings 12")

A new deep minimalistic house killer from Germany. The long hard pulse of Zion dub. Get this one and anything else you may find off Force Tracks records.

GHETTO FUNK:
Doing My Thing
(G-Funk Recordings 12")

Soulful 2-step. A lot deeper and harder than Wookie´s jam but nevertheless excellent.

FREESTYLE MAN:
Take Advantage
(Cliche Recordings 12")

Freestyle Man out of Finland deliverers a decent deep house jam. Second mix on flip, the Nu Sound Collective Helsinki mix, by Nuspirit Helsinki is the one to go for. Nice one!

AZZIDO DA BASS:
Dooms Night
(Edel Recordings 12")

Now I have finally got my hands on Azzido Da Bass´ Dooms Night - one of this year most reputed record. This house/2-step crossover monster has been on everybody elese play list forever it seems. The famous Timo Maas Remix is spectacular in the same way as Isolee´s Beau Mot Plague was when it hit the dance floors last year. Well, is it any cop then? Indeed - I do like it, and it will be in my box for a while, that´s for sure.

VILLALOG:
Detroit/Brasilia/Odessa
(Para Recordings 12")

Out of Vienna comes this wicked tune, a spoken word anthem to the house music heroes in Detroit complete with synth chords, slide guitar and b-line to die for. Amazing stuff. Flip comes with a rather uninspired beats track, and a cool and serene chiller called Odessa. This set is for the groovers around the world, and for anyone who seeks the unexpected in music.

UNKNOWN:
Night Textures EP
(Transport Recordings 12")

This is a good one. Funky guitar licks and heavy bass. Shakes the tiles when blasted on a good system. Impeccable deep and groovy house music.

AFRO ELEMENTS:
The Chocolat EP
(Internal Bass Recordings 12")

This EP Contains one cool Latin Jazz groover It Remains To Be Seen. The rest are jazz-fusion jams in the style of Incognito. Ehrm, Anyone for tennis?
