ANTONIO
Enamorandose - Falling In Love (Main Mix)
(Tribal Winds 1999)

Enamorandose is a one sided promo with one track from Antonio´s forthcoming album RAICES - ROOTS "Music from the heart" soon to be released off Antonio´s own label Tribal Winds Records.

Antonio started Tribal Winds in order to put out his own music. In that way he would not have to make any compromises about the music he is making.

He named the label Tribal Winds because the Puerto Rican culture includes both Indian and African cultural aspects. Without focusing on either, Antonio is acknowledging and embracing both his African and Taino Indian background, which is evident in the driving percussion arrangements for congas, bongos and Indian drums.

The funky percussion arrangements is significant for Antonio´s music. From the percussive patterns he is slowly building a massive and irresistible groove. He is aiming for our souls but the groove goes through our feets on the dance floor before it reaches our hearts.

Antonio is exploring spirituality in music in his own special way. He is convinced that it is not necessary with vocals for a song to tell a story and I am inclined to agree on that. Especially if the music is as vital as on Enamorandose. Antonio has created a multilayered percussion pattern which evolves into a cinematic rhythm anthem. The ever present congas and bongos evokes the spirituality and joy you are experiencing when you are about to fall in love.

Enamorandose has a cool acoustic guitar intro played in that clean George Benson style of playing. It renders the jam a touch of jazz and blues that blends exquisite with the greatest of b-lines as the song progresses. The deep driving b-line has such a floor filler quality, people will instantly be on the dance floor when it kicks in.

When the Keith Jarrett sounding grand piano is introduced at the second half of the song it adds a romantic timbre of longing and reunion.

Antonio has once again, actually for the third time this year, proved that he is one of the most gifted musicians in house music. Enamorandose is the third 12" I have heard from him and I sincerely think it is the best song so far. It reaches way beyond any genre boundary of music and that is something I always look for when I search for music. Music that sounds like something I heard yesterday by another, i.e. any artist, just isn´t worth checking up on. (Records are too expensive and time is too tight) On the other hand, music like Antonio´s, that goes further and beyond is always worth the time and effort, and I sure like the music he is making.

Enamorandose is a just a glimpse and for that matter, a tasty piece of the forthcoming album. The story so far has raised a lot of expectations and I can hardly wait until the album is released.

Until then I will staple Antonio´s 12"´s in my record box. Timeless music tend to remain, so to speak.
