HISTORY PAGE
Yacanto in Sweden.
On this page we will tell you a little bit
about Yacanto in the U.K., and show you some of the wonderful dogs we have
bred.
It all started in late 1979 when
my sister decided she would like a Great Dane. Since she felt I had a good
eye for horses, she asked for her help picking a Great Dane.
We visited a number of well known
kennels in England and some not so well known and eventually came upon a
breeder who had run on two bitch puppies that were 5 months. Impressed by
the size of bone and general substance of those pups my sister decided she
would like to purchase one of them. However, I liked one and my sister
preferred the other and so after much deliberation we decided to go away
and think about it.
My sister later decided not to buy one, but
I could not get those pups out of my head so I went back and found that
the one I had chosen had gone, so I bought the other one Adcote Bianca.
"Bianca", although very big had a poor
topline so she was never bread from. My husband Michael and I had decided
to start breeding, so we set out to buy what was to be our foundation
bitch. We had liked puppies sired by the American import Lincoln's Winstead
Von Raseac who was also Adcote Bianca's sire. We found a six month brindle
bitch for sale, by Von Raseac out of an Impton bitch bred by Sven
Petersson. Her name was Chapala Dixie
Pixie of Yacanto , a lovely bitch, not great in size, but very correct.
"Dixie Pixie" was mated to a dog named CH
Samani Desert Chief and that mating produced the first Champion of the
Kennel, GBCH Yacanto Tudor Melody who in turn mated to Daneagle Elgar of
Walkmyll produced the very successful sires GBCH Yacanto Sir Ken and
GBCH Yacanto Top Gun. "Sir Ken" was responsible for
siring many champions, group winner and the top winning male all time in
the U.K. "Top Gun" was the sire of many champions, Group winners not only
in the UK but also in Sweden and Australia. He sired the top winning Great
Dane in the U.K. 1995. Semen from GBCH Yacanto Top Gun is stored for export
and a litter out of frozen semen is due shortly in New Zealand. "Top Gun"
was the Top Stud Dog in Great Danes in the U.K. in 1994 and finished number
3 all breeds, beaten for top spot by one point! In the summer of 1994 he
died and yet was still Top Stud Dog in Great Danes for 1995 and finished
tenth all breeds.
His daughter Swedish and English Champion
GBSUCH Yacanto This Is Sunny, won Dane of The Year
1992; Top Twelve Best Bitch Superleague 1992; The Working Group at Midland
Counties Championship Show 1992 from approx.3500 working dogs.
She was sent to Sweden to Barbro and Lars-Erik Troback and became the
foundation bitch of Yacanto in Sweden.
In 1992 Grand Fawns Nemesis was imported
from Sweden. She was mated first to "Top Gun", and then to his best fawn
son GBCH Dainwood Taken By Force and produced the top winning GBCH Yacanto
Reason to Dream, a champion at 15 months Reserve Dane of the Year 1995 at
13 months of age, Dane of the Year 1996 out of a total of 266 exhibits, and
only two years old.
We currently have an import male from Denmark Great
Granadas Washington Yacanto who is only one step away from his title.
We look forward with excitement to the years to come and hope our
achievements and our accolades will be many both in England and in
Scandinavia..
