Built of ironwood, 148 feet long with a mast 93 feet high, this pole
junk made the long voyage from China arriving at St Helena 17 April 1847
(over four and a half months after setting out). Not normally associated
with 'blue water sailing' these ships were very dry and seaworthy. Due
to the size of the rudder it sometimes took twenty men to steer.
