THE FARSTA METHOD   by   KARL LJUNGSTRÖM

In a free and democratic society we see it as natural that no one should be a victim of any kind of torture. No child, certainly, should need to fear being tormented by physically or mentally stronger bullies.

However, we know that there are many children who wake up every morning feeling anxious - perhaps with a stomachache - and wondering whether this will be a day of maltreatment and abuse or a happy day of being left in peace.

The booklet available here (http://home.swipnet.se/bully) briefly describes and explains bullying, but it is above all a course on how to handle it. The author, Karl Ljungström, is a teacher. His purpose in publishing the method on the web is to help the victims of bullying as well as the bullies.

"We must never let the victim down".

If a small group of teachers in a school absorbs this method, they will have the necessary tools for detecting and stopping bullying when it occurs. And it will occur, sooner or later.

This course - "The Farsta Method" - is the result of long experience and has been in use for many years. It is aimed at teachers, parents and others who work with and care about children. To get an overview, we recommend that you read the "Introduction" and some of the sections, e.g., "Punishment" and "Parents and bullying". If you want to really learn and apply the method, it would be best to print out a copy for your studies.
