Raku Gallery
Burning Raku is a pleasant way to produce a fast type of ceramics. The kiln I use is a wood fired kiln, made of Leca, light weight bricks. The glazes are very important part of the over all process as well as the post fired treatment, which later became a European phenomenon. The raku technique was brought to Europe by the legendary English potter, Bernhard Leach in the late 50s and is now on of the most popular ceramic techniques.
About Me
I was born on a volcanic island, Vestmannaeyjar, in the North Atlantic, south of Iceland. It was not a certainty that I would grow old on this island and in fact destiny had decided otherwise. I watched as a volcanic eruption formed new land, burying our house in the process. Such a dramatic event permanently changed my perspective on life and had a powerful influence on my art.
Sculpture Gallery
To make large sculptures and reliefs is a big challenge. The ceramic process makes the material fragile in the beginning and during the burning in the kiln many thing can go wrong: With my photos, technique called indirect screen-printing, provides my works with an extra dimension.
