The Mist, the Gyrocopter, and the Skull The fog made it impossible to see, how could any of the warmachines
shoot now? Just a while ago there was no fog at all, it was as if some
evil beast conjured up this foul weather. My next thought was how will
I conscript infantry and cavalry with all of my artillery and archers
useless? Fortunately it was still day, something even the undead were
afraid of. I knew they would hold up this standoff until night, when
they would charge through this dense cloud to engage us. To believe
the Great King Hazagon will be ousted by a few bones. Thinking about
how he needed to get more troops Hazagon send his only Gyrocopter to the
dwarf installment a day behind him. Hopefully they would get here by
nightfall. The wait was horrible, it was only midday and already he
longed for the battle to begin. The fog was thicker then it was before,
maybe the undead were planning an attack now? No they couldn't be,
their powers are weakest now, or at least that's what my grand papa
always told me. I began to walk the line giving orders to my troops,
informing them of our situation. Before I knew it night had fallen upon
us, I still had not heard from the gyrocopter I send out earlier. The
fog had turned into a mist now, but the darkness helped shroud them
enemy in an invisible cloak. My ranks were becoming edgy now, they
wanted to fight. I agreed, but I wanted to wait for the
reinforcements. Just then I heard a rumble behind us, and a sound from
the air, mechanical sound from the air. Could it really be true, his
brethen have made it in time. How though, for the travel is across
mountains and takes at least a full days worth of travel. The
gyrocopter flew past my retinue into the mist. I guess he wanted to
scout the enemy before reporting to me, I like that pilot a brave
dwarf. The wait for the other dwarves to arrive was longer then
eternity itself, I could hear them marching but couldn't see them. Then
in the distance I saw them, I also heard the gyrocopter making a pass to
come back presumably. He then landed, to my dismay his machine looked
like it was over 100 years old and never maintained. A dwarf who
destroys his equipment is just as bad as one who commits treason to join
those foul brethren of ours in Zaggurend. I saw the pilot, still
hunched over in his gyrocopter. I became suspicious, I unsheathed my
axe getting ready for the worst. When I got closer something smelled
like rotting flesh...it was the pilot! He was half eaten, and he started
shambling toward me! I took my axe and with one fell swoop cleaved his
head in two, hopefully having his soul rest in peace. The other dwarves
were just getting upon us now, I quickly moved as fast as my little legs
would take me to see their commander. I started shouting, I knew they
heard me, but I got no replies. When I got their I immediately
recognized their leader as High King Kazador. I asked him "Brother what
took you such a short time to reach us, your camp was at least a day's
travel away. Nevermind at least you are here now we can charge the
infernal death. A cold hand touched his back, "Dear Hazagon, we have
had many improvements, especially me." As my king said this I felt the
life being drained from me. I tried to yell, but I couldn't open my
mouth. Kazador then gave the order to attack, his troops moved forward,
mine stayed where they were with their backs turned. I tried to yell
again, instead I heard Kazador say "All missile troops FIRE!" All of a
sudden the warmachines, crossbowmen, and thunderers fired their weapons
making a mist so thick it rivaled the one infront of us earlier today.
I heard cries of battle in the distance, I assume it began. When the
smoke cleared I saw not a single of my men still alive, they were all
slaughtered by the undead. "I suppose you want to know why I kept you
alive, well in all truth I don't know, but seeing your despair for your
comrades isn't good. You know though they aren't really dead." With
that I shuddered even more as I saw an army raising from the dead where
mine stood. "Now my dear Hazagon, I have a present for you," with that
I saw his mouth coming closer to my head opening as if he was going to
...."King Dammison look what I found," the Runesmith handed the King a
skull with a gapping hole in the top. "It looks like the poor lad had
his insides sucked, at least we know it was the undeads fault." "Sir we
have spotted the dwarven army ahead of us. They are marching to us." Written by: Lone Wolf |
