King of the Hill

Long before the time of Sigmar Al’Raputna was a mighty warlord who put entire nations at his feet, seemingly none could withstand him. However, an alliance of the Old World’s leading kingdoms put an end to his rampages at the Battle of Jurgad Pass. Although Al’Raputna’s forces were eventually victorious their great leader was slain and subsequently buried, his followers erecting a small kingdom at the place of his death (nowadays one of the Border Prince nations).

It was rumoured that the source of Al’Raputna’s success was a magical artefact of great power, although with the late warlord’s army guarding his tomb no one felt like investigating this. And time passes and memory fades into legend, and legend into myth. All until now..

The renowned Dwarf adventurer Little Smuttefutt has recently managed to unearth the location of Al’Raputna’s tomb although he could not open it alone. Thus, he sent a letter to his clan telling them of the location of the tomb and asking for aid. Unfortunately, literacy has never been one of Smuttefutt’s strong sides so the letter was accidentally sent to the Altdorf Times instead. This unexpected announcement caused quite a stir among the nations of the world and several of them mounted an expedition to claim the tomb for themselves, hoping to grab the artefact of power. Thus our story begins...

Armies: Any three 1500-point armies (preferably, though any size will do).

Winning the game: If any unit with a unit strength of 10 or more holds the Tomb of Al’Raputna unopposed for at least three turns that army is declared the winner. If this does not happen, the winner of the battle is the player to have the most unbroken points on the hill at the end of turn 6.

Special rules: Due to the special nature of this scenario no unbreakable units are allowed, nor are any items, spells or whatnot which confer a similar advantage. For the same reason, stubborn troops do not count as stubborn.

Deployment: All three armies should be deployed at an equal distance from the Tomb and each other.

Terrain: The only required terrain is the Tomb of Al’Raputna (a rather large hill, possibly with some kind of tombstone atop it) which should be placed in the middle of the battlefield. Otherwise, terrain should be set up so that no one army is more impeded than any other.

Duration: The battle continues six turns or until any army meets the victory conditions.

Author's notes: One of surely a thousand variations on the classic "King of the hill" theme. Such scenarios often make for entertaining battles with the control of the objective switching several times. If you have the time, consider playing a longer game, say 8 turns.
