Welcome to Stockholm, Sweden!

Dear member of Intervac and home exchanger
to be. Lars, Susanne, Diana and Sonia Abelin
would like to tell you a little about our home,
about beautiful Stockholm ("Venize of Scandinavia"),
and about Sweden ("The land of the midnight sun").

The brown house.

Our family lives in a house that was built in 1926. In fact
the whole area, called Höglandet (The Highland), consists of
houses from the 20s.The area is very quiet and safe. That plus the
short distance to the very center of the city makes Höglandet
one of Stockholms most attractive areas. Our house was built out
in the old style and totally renovated in 1998. The ground floor
consists of a lounge, kitchen, living room (with a TV set plus a vcr)
and dining room (with a fire place). Second floor consists of a big
lounge (with two armchairs, a TV set, a writing desk and a chair),
3 bedrooms and a bathroom with a shower. The basement consists
of a washing room, a guest room (with a TV set plus a vcr), an office
with a separate entrance and a bathroom with a shower. The floor
in the bathrooms, washing room and guest room are warmed up
by electricity.
Put together there are around 160 square meters of living space.

    Distances.
The center of Stockholm: 7 km.
    Drottningholm Palace: 3 km.
Water (Mälaren which runs out into the North Sea): 750 meters.
Natural swim facility (Solvik/Sunny Bay): 2 km.
    Grocery: 300 meters.
    Public transportation (tram): 300 meters.
    Subway: 1,3 km.
    Hair dresser: 300 meters.
    Restaurant (Italian food): 300 meters.

  • Drottningholm Palace, the residence of the royal family.
The castle is inspired by French architecture and built in the
17th century. It includes a small castle in Chinese style and
the worlds oldest theater in continous uses. Drottningholm is
one of the eight Swedish sites included in UNESCOs cataloge
of the international heritage. There are huge parks around the
castle where the public is allowed to stroll along. By car it will
take you no time to get there. By bike it takes 15-20 minutes.
Look for the flag pole on the roof of the castle. If the Swedish
flag is up it means that the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf,
    is at home.

Sweden is called "The land of the midnight sun". And the light
is brighter than ever around Midsummer. Dont miss to
attend a place where the celebration of the Midsummer
Eve is held. Try for example Skansen, the marvellous
outdoor museum originated from the end of the 19th century.

Its easy to get along in Sweden for tourists. Swedes are the
people in Europe that speaks English the best (except of
the native English people of course...).
