MEL ODOM -- THE DESIGNER OF GENE
Mel Odom was born and raised far from the complexities of life in New York City that he would ultimately embrace. Mel grew up in tiny Ahoskie, North Carolina. Mel knew early in life what dream he wanted to fulfill. His artistic talent led his parents to i n vest in art lessons, and Mel ultimately majored in fashion illustration at Virginia Commonwealth University, followed by graduate work at the Leeds Polytechnic Institute of Art and Design in England. Since moving to New York in 1975, Mel Odom has exhibited his work in shows at the Copper-Hewitt Museum and the Society of Illustrators, and is the two-time recipient of an award of excellence from that highly-respected society. His art has appeared on the covers of Time and Omni magazines, in the New York Times Magazine and Playboy, and has illustrated stories by Joyce Oates and Tom Robbins.
"Red Venus" was my first Gene doll, and my collection started with her.
Marianna is OOAK that soon will belong to me. She is made by the artist Jean MaDan.
Andrea is my second repaint from Jean MaDan and Maureen is the third one.
