Our history so far.........

It all started at a Swedish midsummer-eve party held at "Villa Danger On The Roof" (Villa Fara På Taket) located outside the south Swedish village of Borgeby, 1992.

Pete, one of the four people sharing the house, had been to the movies and seen The Commitments. And bought a new drum kit. This drum kit was out in the "chicken-chack" together with a guitar & bass with amplifiers. A lot felt called upon during the midsummer evening to rattle around with the instruments, but few were chosen. In the aftermath of this party the band Danger On The Roof formed.

So the name is simply taken from the place where the band once started. The repertoire back then was more or less tunes from The Commitments picture and some Blues Brothers mixed with Elvis Costello(!). The first gig was during a Mexican theme night (another word for having a party and drinking Tequila) at Villa Danger On The Roof. Back then, the band was already consisting of eleven persons!

The most memorable thing from this night was that one of the guitarists' amp gave in after the first round of chords, so he just had to act straight through the whole evening. No need to worry about the sound. And that the parquet floor in the villa was ruined. But the band was an instant hit. And they decided to continue......

The success would repeat itself once again at midsummer eve 1993. For that party they had rigged a stage in the garden of the villa. Those of you Swedes who remember midsummer 1993 might remember that the day was warm, but the evening cold and rainy. For different reasons the band started late, with an incredibly nervous drummer/singer who could not sit still, together with a guitarist who almost got his hands frost-bitten and a trumpet player who played rather than good. Anyway, an even bigger success.

There has been a lot of water under the bridge since then, and the band finally found its present look during the spring of 1998, even if the members has changed a little.

The band moved from the rehearsal room in Villa Danger On The Roof into the city of Malmö. The 10 sq.m. of chicken-chack was just too crowded for twelve persons. The brass section sometimes had to play standing in the open loft, since there was no available floor space. The new rehearsal room doesn't have quite the same limitations.

Today, the band consist of twelve persons, of which four has been around since the beginning. The setting is five times vocal, one keyboard & mouth organ, one saxophone, one trumpet, one trombone, two guitars, one bass and one drum kit. Plus the soundman.

The band has limited its public appearances to once a month, and on the rare occasions where they have a public performance is the club normally sold out early in the evening. Most of the gigs are at a private parties and such.
