KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
29 years of practical experience of small scale fishing, 16 of them as a full time working fisherman in Sweden. I have worked with most types of existing small scale fishing craft and gear.
Since 1985 I have worked with different development projects and missions in Africa and Asia in the fields of small scale fishing and boatbuilding. Last 10 years' work has also included institutional building, including project planning and implementation, within local government administrations.
My qualifications combine a sound practical knowledge of small scale fishing, in developed and developing countries, with theoretical and administrative ability.
Special knowledge of Angola, Moçambique and Guiné-Bissau.

Northern Fishing Communities Development Programme
The objective of this seven-year programme is to increase the
income and improve the living conditions of fishing communities
by promoting sustainable exploitation of fish resources at a more
intensive level. Programme components are:
- market development and financing;
- community development; and
- policy development and fisheries management.
Total programme costs are estimated at USD 9.3 million, of which USD 1.0 million will be provided by the Belgian Survival Fund Joint Programme (BSF.JP) in the form of a grant, USD 620 000 by the borrower and USD 340 000 by the beneficiaries.

I am responsible for support to local staff in planning and implementation of work within fishing technology, boat construction and fisheries management.

2003. Two weeks study of the fisheries at Lake Victoria, Tanzania for Sida District Development Programme.

2001 4 weeks consultancy for the "Fisheries Infrastructure Development Project" in Eritrea. Inception mission. First part of an 8 month assignment with SEPIA Fisheries Consultants, France. 1995 Member of DANIDA mission to Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe and Cahora Bassa in Moçambique to study possibilities of supporting the development of semi-industrial fishing of "Kapenta" (Small fresh-water sardine) in Cahora Bassa. Report to DANIDA/Maputo
1994-97 Adviser to Head of IDPPE:s regional office for Maputo province, situated at Inhaca island. (Delegação Provincial do Instituto de Desenvolvimento da Pesca da Pequena Escala) in Moçambique. NORAD. Pilot-project to create regional structures and extension service of IDPPE. The work included:
- preparing annual work-plans
- preparing budgets

- elaboration of work descriptions for personnel

- meetings with fishing communities

1994 Two weeks in Luanda, Angola as member of appraisal mission to evaluate proposal for SIDA support to fisheries sector 1994-97.
1990-93 Master fisherman in SIDA supported artisanal fisheries project in Guiné-Bissau. Post attached to DGFPA (Direcção Geral do Fomento da Pesca Artesanal) within the Ministry of Fisheries. I was responsible for organizing a development department within DGFPA, including workplans, budget, personell, etc. Areas of Work: Test fishing, Fishermens Schools, Fish processing, Credits, Marketing and Boat construction.
Testfishing was carried out both for commercial purpose, and to gather biological data together with the Fisheries Research Laboratory within the Ministry of Fisheries. Tests were carried out in Bijagós Arquipelago with handlines and bottom set nets and in Buba river with driftnets.
1989 Member of Mid Term Review Mission to evaluate FAO project "Small Scale Fisherfolk Communities" within the Bay of Bengal Programme. Sep 3-Oct 20.Visits to India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
1989 Member of mission to make sectorial study of Artisanal Fisheries in Guiné-Bissau, and elaborate a strategy for development of the sector. Visits to all coastal regions in April and May. 7 weeks. SIDA.
