Some info on NHL HOCKEY '97
GAMEPLAY:
It's much better gameplay than NHL 96. The defence is much better and they slide to cover the goalie
when you shoot and tries to check anyone who tries to score a goal. In the offence you have better control
of your players and everything you do looks real.
FEATURES:
This version of the game has all the features of the past versions and a few new ones. For
example, they added motion capture to the graphics and actually managed to paste player faces
onto the graphics, so Mario Lemieux really looks like Mario Lemieux, and some
players also have that goat beard in their face, cool! Play-by play is another
new one! The goalie control is out. 3-D polygons are now used for player graphics so, they look real!
The goalies make vey nice saves! 3rd jerseys are now also included along with the new teams and uniforms (including
Phoenix Coyotes). The FIGHTING is still here and it is fun to do. I haven't yet done a penalty shot, I can't
get it. When I get a breakaway and get checked in the back then it's just a penalty but not a penalty shot.
NATIONAL TEAMS: Now you can play with 5 National Teams. They are: Team Canada, Team USA,
Team Russia, Team Scandinavia and Team Europe. In Team Scandinavia there
are only players from Sweden and Finland in it, and in Team Europe there are players from all around Europe,
The Chech Republic, Germany (Uwe Krupp). In Team USA, Canada and Russia you can figure it out for yourself
what players are in there!
ALL-STAR TEAMS: You can play with either All-Star West or East, but you could do that in NHL 96 too.
MY THOUGHTS ABOUT NHL HOCKEY '97: I think it is the best game ever, except for some things: The play-by-play sound
do mix the names after a while, the goalie can hold the puck without the referee blows his whistle so if you throw out the
puck a player in the other team can take the puck and score. The game crashes sometimes. You can even score right after the
face-off, you can face-off towards the goalie and it can slide through his skates (just once in a game) and you need a quite fast computer
to play it smoothly. You can't save a game that you are playing. Here are the good things: They shoot much faster (better) than in NHL '96 and they
skate very naturally just like in reality. The controls are much better. The goalies makes very nice saves, he can slide and get the puck with his blocker. The graphics are
more real and they have pasted the faces to the players so the players looks real if you replay and zoom at the players. The sounds are great.
I just dig the music that is on when you look at the stats and so on. So finally, everyone who hasn't got it: GO AND BUY IT!
NHL 97 Patch NEWS!!!
If you have heard about that Patch that will take care of all the bugs, these are some of the fixes that it will do:
1. There will be Cyrix support (I can't give you specific
chips,
though).
2. The game crashing problems should all be taken care of.
3. The official will blow the whistle when the goalie gets the
puck.
4. The play-by-playfile will be loaded from the CD before each
game
so that it can't get corrupted.
