German GP Comments Sunday
Jean Alesi:
I made a good start and just managed to avoid Pedro's incident. Unfortunately I hit the back of Panis' car in the stadium and had to pit at the end of the first lap for a new nose. After that it was just a matter of pushing as hard as I could. My two refuelling stops went well, but really this was a weekend to forget for me.

Pedro Diniz:
At the start I got away well and had made up some places when I was suddenly hit from behind. The next thing I knew I was heading for the gravel and the tyre wall. It was a short race for me, and a disappointing end to a tough weekend. At least Jacques came and apologised; he said he had been hit by another car.

Peter Sauber:
Even without Pedro's crash, which was not his fault, and Jean's initial pit stop, our grid placed would not have allowed us to score points today. Jean achieved respectable lap times, and we treated the Grand Prix as an opportunity to developour car further on a high-speed course, in high temperatures, and under race conditions.

Saturday

Jean Alesi:
Today was a disaster for me. We lacked downforce, and it was just not possible to balance the car properly. It was understeering far too much in qualifying. We have compared everything in the set-ups, and I cannot see why I am six tenth slower than Pedro.

Pedro Diniz:
The car was a little bit better than it was this morning, after a small improvement to the set-up stopped it oversteering so much. But on my last run I tried to get a tow from Villeneuve on my out lap, and he was quite slow in the stadium section. When I came to the first corner on my flying lap the brakes were a little cold as a result, so I lost the chance to go quicker.

Peter Sauber:
Even if there had been a correct set-up for us in qualifying, we were unable to find it. Our technical probelms yesterday lost us much valuable track time, which had an adverse knock-on effect on our chances today.

Friday

Jean Alesi:
This morning the car was going quite well until I had a brake problem going into the second chicane. After that it needed some modifications to the brake system. These were completed for the afternoon session, but there was no time to make the changes to the rear suspension which were necessary after Pedro's problem, so I could not go out.

Pedro Diniz:
This morning my car was bottoming heavily on the bumps, and oversteering in the fast corners. Then it developed a problem with the rear suspension, which necessitated some modifications. These were carried out in time for me to do two laps this afternoon, and I was not able to better the time I set in the morning.

Peter Sauber:
We were not able to complete our programme with either of our cars today. Jean's developed a problem with the brakes, Pedro's with the rear suspension. Both problems will be solved for tomorrow.
