Kansas - Freaks of Nature

What is Kansas nowadays, really? According to me it's still one of the greatest bands out there. Of course this -95 release isn't all that "Leftoverure", "Point of Know Return" and all the other classics were, but it's still not a bad album. The difference from the old days is that Kerry Livgren and Robby Steinhardt is not on it, but I must say that Kansas are doing fine without them. In David Ragsdale I see a very creative violin player, who seems to realy love the music he's become a part of. It's great to see him play. What they lost when Kerry left was of course only one of the best song-writers there is, but still Kansas manages to keep themslves alive...

As usual I could say that I love each and every track on Freaks of Nature, but if I just mention the very best tracks that would be "Desperate Times", "Hope Once Again", "Under The Knife" and "Peaceful And Warm". All these songs give you that warm feeling of coming home, and that is exactly what Kansas are good at. They create music that you just have to love, and feel....

As expected on a 90's release Steve Walsh has lost a lot of his power, even if he still manages to do what he wants. It just sounds a little worse. I had a time when I only liked the husky Steve Walsh and really not that old "good" voice, so I guess everything is possible. I do like his voice and singing anytime..

3. Hope Once Again
